Raymond Danysh Obituary

DANYSH
Raymond F. Danysh, born March 1, 1919, in Yorktown, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2011 at the age of 92. He was a highly respected home builder/remodeler for over 50 years in the local San Antonio area. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Helen (Wollny) and his infant daughter, Earline Joyce. He is survived by three of his four children and their spouses: Mel and Carolyn Danysh, Charlotte and David Putnam, and Pat Danysh; Grandchildren and their spouses: Heather (Danysh) and Lawrence Ronk of Dallas, Texas, Kirsten (Danysh) and Nathan Shilling of Austin, Texas, Matthew and Laura Danysh of Alexandria, Virginia, and Gretchen Danysh of Dallas, Texas; Great Grandsons Nicholas and Jackson Shilling, Caleb Danysh, and Noah Ronk. He is also survived by his brother Sigmond(Jack) Danysh and his wife, Clara, of San Antonio, and numerous family and friends. The family wishes to express its sincerest appreciation to Raymond's long time caregiver and family friend, Trini Ramon. Raymond and Helen, were married in 1938, and farmed in the Yorktown, Texas area until 1945. He moved to San Antonio and worked for G.S. McCreless, homebuilder, starting as a carpenter and advancing to the position of General Superintendent. While there he worked with Southwest Research Institute in constructing the first concrete slab foundations for homes for the FHA, making cedar post foundations a thing of the past. In 1955 he joined with Bob Jones, later San Antonio city councilman, and formed D.J. Developers. They developed homes from Clark Avenue to Highlands High School in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He later formed Home Services Construction Co. which he operated until 2009 when at the age of 90 he was forced to retire due to failing health. He was known for his hobbies of restoring antique brass light fixtures, and design and construction of furniture, particularly of mesquite and walnut. Because of his reputation for honesty and quality construction, his consul and work is already sorely missed by his family, numerous longtime customers, and friends. Visitation will begin at 6 PM on Thursday, July 14 with a rosary to be recited at 7 PM at Porter Loring Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, July 15 at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 1523 Iowa St. with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd. Raymond's last project was participation in the restoration of St. Gerard's Catholic Church, where he was a member for 64 years. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Gerard Restoration Fund would be a fitting memorial to his life.

Mr. D was the Best! He knew the business and told you the truth. His employees, subs and clients respected him and that is a quality we can each aspire to achieve in our own life work. I will miss his advice, his little tomatoes, his joyful expression, and his humor! Tomorrow I will enjoy and egg, bacon, and toast for breakfast in his honor!! Next week a contractor will begin working on my home and I will long for Mr. D's consult and friendship.

I had the great honor of meeting Mr. Danysh at St. Gerard's through my parents, Tony and Aida Arreaga. Mother and Daddy were also long-time members of St. Gerard and shared a special friendship with Mr. Danysh. Daddy shared a common interest in homebuilding with Mr. Danysh and talked "shop" with him at every opportunity. I'm sure Mother and Daddy, and my sister Arlene, were part of the welcoming committee in Heaven when Mr. Danysh arrived. I pray God blesses you with peace during this difficult time. anne arreaga
