Aurora Hansis Obituary
Aurora Coccato Hansis passed away on September 17, 2011 in San Antonio, TX. She was born in Parana, Entre Rios, Argentina to parents Manuel Coccato and Raquela Nenning in November 1943. She grew up in Mendoza, Argentina and came to the US as an exchange teacher where she met her future husband, Tom, in Wisconsin. After marriage she taught in Honduras, Puerto Rico, California, Florida, and in San Antonio. She received her Master of Arts Degree in Spanish from UTSA. Her participation in CASA Argentina, where she held several offices, demonstrated her unique ability to make others around her feel good. She is survived by her husband Tom, daughter Andrea Hansis-Diarte, son Daniel Hansis, grandchildren Nicolas and Camila Diarte, Gaby Hansis and daughter-in-law Claudia Garza-Hansis, brother Miguel Coccato and sister Patricia Coccato de Melillo and many more family member and friends. Family and friends will celebrate her life at a Memorial Mass to be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou Drive in San Antonio on Friday, September 23 at 10 AM. A reception at the church will follow the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to CASA Argentina, PO Box 17325, San Antonio, TX 78217 to support rural schools in Argentina.

I only met Aurora (and Tom), one time, at a dinner at their home in San Atonio, but was struck and impressed by her personality and gifts. Great lady!

Dear Tom,
I am just learning of the passing of Aurora. She was one of the most lovely persons I have ever known in my life. I am so sorry to be so late in saying something, but she was was a source of strength, knowledge and understanding that prevailed in her life. Though she passed some years ago, she has been a source of goodness and reminder of wise life choices and always a smile.
She had been with me always....but I know how much she is missed by her Family.

Tom, Andrea,Daniel. I am sorry to hear about Aurora's death and I join you in your pain. I am sure that I, along with anyone that met Aurora, would have the same view of her concern for others, and the love that she showed to all.

Hello My name is Angie I am the sister of Carla, Andrea's Friend. We just heard about Aurora's passing as they announced her name at St. Brigid Church. I am sorry for your loss and will always remember in 8th grade when I was assigned to another teacher for my Spanish class instead of Aurora and how upset I was that I didn't get her as my teacher. She will be truly missed and God's Blessings for healing in your hearts after such a loss as we lost our mother a month and a half ago as well. Andrea and family. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I have always known you mother to be such a beautiful, sweet woman.She was so proud to see and talk about you all.When we talked , recently, at Rain Forest Cafe, the proud mom\grandma SHINED through. You will always have blessed memories, the BEST thing to know, she is with our LORD JESUS CHRIST and he is loving her, more than we even could. It is with great sadness that I hear of Aurora's passing. She was such a beautiful and loving person who exuded that love to all the family and friends she came across. My sincee condolences and prayers.
Aurora was such a great person and always made me feel as if I was a part of her family. What a great loss it is to all of us. I will always remember her beautiful smile and soft loving voice.
I am sorry I will not be able to attend the Memorial, but you can be assured I will be remembering and celebrating Aurora's life not only now by often.
I hope to personally give you my condolences when I return to San Antonio.

Mike and I lament the loss of your wife. When I first met her we shared our love of reading. One of our favorites was the Velveteen Rabbit. The Skin Horse told the Rabbit that you become "real" when you are really really loved and that loving hurts..."it doesn't happen to people who break easily or have sharp edges or have to be carefully kept." Becoming real takes a long time and not everyone becomes "real". Aurora was really real and very loved. I stretched the analogy but will always remember Aurora when I read it.

Aurora querida, no tenía una idea de que estuvieras enferma y batallando tanto. Me siento horrible al no poder estar a tu lado. Llevo 6 meses básicamente confinada en mi casa porque tengo una enfermedad muy rara que se ha alojado en el cerebro y me ha afectado mi mobilidad. Sin embargo, mis hijos, especialmente tu querida ex alumna Lauri, me hubieran llevado para estar a tu lado. La Sra. Hansis fue una de las personas que más he admirado y respetado en esta vida. Fui su estudiante por menos de una semana, pero interactué mucho con ella durante mi estancia en Communications Arts. Es una de las pocas personas que ha marcado mi vida para siempre. El más sentido pésame para su familia. La quise mucho Sra. Hansis, que descanse en paz.
