Lucille Bowles Obituary

September 7, 1923 - August 23, 2014
Lucille Heath Bowles, age 90, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 23, 2014 at her home in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on September 7, 1923, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents Zebedee and Alma Heath; brothers Bill Heath and Edwin Heath; sister Margaret Stuckey; and her loving husband of 66 years, Edgar B. Bowles, Sr. She is survived by her son Ed Bowles, Jr. and wife Tricia, son Fred Bowles, daughter Lynette Bowles, and beloved grandchildren Emily Oller and husband Ben, and Brian Bowles. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Lois Heath, brother-in-law Artis (Pug) Bowles and wife Dottie, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lucille grew up in Wichita Falls, where she met her husband, Ed, while he was stationed at Sheppard Field. They were married January 15, 1944. After World War II, they moved to San Antonio, where they remained life-long residents. Lucille was an incredibly generous and gracious lady who will always be remembered for her welcoming smile and sense of style. Her motto was "It's better to give than to receive." She was a devoted Christian who spent countless hours volunteering for church and school events. She received an Honorary Life Membership to the PTA. She also supported her husband with his many business ventures. She enjoyed traveling, with a special fondness for Branson. Other interests included dancing, dominoes, and sporting events; especially NASCAR races and Spurs games. But her greatest joy was spending time with her children and precious grandchildren. She always brought joy to our lives and will be dearly missed. The family sends special thanks to the staff at CIMA Hospice for their loving care during her final days. Ed, Jr. and Fred especially thank Lynette for devoting the past year of her life to caring for our mother. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26 at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, also at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or the charity of your choice. For a personal acknowledgement, you may sign the guestbook at www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com.

Ed and Tricia, we are sorry for your loss. Having met your parents, and having received motorsports stories and photographs from your Dad, I did know them. They represented to me a great American couple who worked together to build their family in both good and bad times. May all parts of your extended family carry on with their spirit.

Ed, Fred & Lynette,

Where do I start to tell you how much your family means to ours. We have known each other since 1958, when you guys moved into the neighborhood. We've had some great times, from playing football games in your yard or our yard, to spending time at the race track. Your parents were like my second set of parents! We love them very much! We are all going to miss them very much and I know I will miss not being able to walk across the street, just to say hi and visit awhile. Our prayers and thoughts go out to your family! We love you!
