Maurice Reagan Obituary

December 7, 1922 - November 20, 2014
A life-long Texan who lived and worked a few years in Ohio where he met Joan, the love of his life, Maurice was born in Waring and grew up in Van Raub and Leon Springs, the son of a railroad section chief. His parents were Claude C. Reagan, Sr. and Eddie Lee (Lackey) Reagan. His brothers, Claude C. Reagan, Jr. and James Milton Reagan, predeceased him. His lovely wife Joan passed away June 20, 2013. Maurice served honorably and ably in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 63rd Infantry Division in Germany, and was awarded two Bronze Stars for bravery in battle. He then came home to marry Joan in Ohio where they were both working at Wright Field. Together in Ohio and then San Antonio they raised four children. He is survived by Susan Hicks (husband Jack), Michael (wife Marianne), Martin, and Deborah Daniel, and former son-in-law Jim Daniel, as well as 8 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a 9th grandchild predeceased him. Maurice worked at Kelly Air Force Base from 1952 until early retirement in 1970. He and Joan enjoyed their leisure time together, in their travel trailer around Texas and the US, and visiting Germany and England with old friends. Maurice also loved to hunt and fish with his good buddy Dan Peterson, who died a few years ago. He co-owned a Cessna 172 with two friends, and enjoyed making cross-country trips and taking friends and relatives for rides in the local area. Maurice and Joan had many good friends everywhere they went. He enjoyed meeting up with his 63rd Division veteran buddies at reunions around the country. He was someone you could count on for advice and assistance if you even indicated you were involved in a project. He loved to help people. He was a good cook, often taking over the turkey and cornbread dressing duties at Thanksgiving and Christmas. He made great "mouse pancakes" for his grandchildren. He was polishing his visitors' headlights and filling the birdbaths until the last few months before his death. The Reagan family thanks the staff at Arden Courts Assisted Living, The Heights on Huebner, and VITAS Hospice for their tender care of our dad in his last few months of life, and for their kind assistance to our family.
Friends are invited to Mission Park Funeral Chapels North for visitation with the family on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and to graveside services at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Mission Burial Park North 20900 IH 10 West San Antonio, TX 78257.

Mr. Reagan was the sweetest, most gentle man. Always treated me like family even though I belonged on the next block and was just a kid. He was the biggest flirt I'd ever met and I loved him like family, along with their whole family!

I grew up knowing Debbie and basically adopted her as my "big sister" which I didn't have...only 3 big brothers. I am thankful that Debbie and her folks accepted me as Debbie's friend. Her father was always smiling and teasing and flirting a bit. I have wonderful memories of both Mr. and Mrs. Reagan. They were always so sweet to me, as was Debbie. I feel quite blessed to have known Mr. and Mrs. Reagan and to remain good friends with Debbie. My condolences to the Reagan family and the extended family as well. Both Mr. and Mrs. Reagan are greatly missed by me and my family. I dearly love you, Debbie, and miss your folks as if they were my own. I'll miss seeing your dad's light blue car as well. Always made me smile to see him tooling around.

My sister and I became acquainted with Maurice when he was looking for his old Leon Springs classmates, my mother and her two sisters, included. Getting to know Maurice was one of the greatest blessings we could have ask for. He told us stories about our mother, our grandfather teasing him, and our two aunts...stories that we had not heard before. He also told us heart wrenching stories about being in the war and almost freezing to death. But my favorite was the story about throwing away his ammunition into the pit of the outhouse. Thus, he became my dear "Uncle Boom". His kindness and caring was beyond reproach and we truly did love him like an uncle. It's sad to think he's not with us anymore, but wonderful to know that he is with his beloved Joan, whom he adored. To his family, Susan, Michael, Martin and Debbie, please know my heart aches with you. You had wonderful, loving parents and I was fortunate enough to have my "Uncle Boom". Rest In Peace, dear one.

God Bless each of Maurice's family and loved ones. You were so blessed to have Maurice and Joanie in your lives. I feel blessed for knowing both Maurice and Joanie. They loved each of their children and the children's families and were so proud of you. You were blessed with outstanding awesome role models. God be with you during this difficult time. I told Susan that Maurice and Joanie are probably dancing in heaven.
