Wanda Scruby Obituary

Long time Cambrian resident Wanda Scruby, 95, passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at her home with loved ones by her side. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Wanda graduated Beverly Hills High School then majored in art in college. After marriage to Jack Scruby, they moved to ranch and country life in Ahwanee, Calif. Then they moved to Visalia, Calif., began a family and Wanda taught art at the College of the Sequoias. Wanda and Jack moved to Cayucos in 1973 and opened the famous Solider Factory in Cambria in 1975. Long time friend, Phil Hauser, and later Phil''s brother, Joel, joined them with the Solider Factory endeavor. The Soldier Factory was Jack''s baby, but Wanda designed many of the whimsical fairy, dragon, wizard and animal pewter figurines still in production today. A truly gifted woman, Wanda excelled in most anything that caught her interest. Jack and Wanda''s love of tennis aspired them to make a generous donation to our community for the tennis courts. Wanda also held many first place trophies in ballroom dancing, even into her 70s. Besides her having been a mother and talented women, Wanda''s love of life and great sense of humor will be missed most. She was most definitely, "Forever Young." In Wanda''s honor, a "Roast to Wanda," with champagne, appetizers, an art exhibit and videos of ballroom dancing, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Wanda''s studio in Cambria. Call Linda at (805) 924-1671 for details.

Thank you for letting me share some wonderful memories. I loved looking at your sketches, I think when you were a young girl.

I would like to say it was both an honor and a privilage to
call Wanda my friend. We had lots of laughter this past
4 1/2 years. I only wish I had met her sooner
