Mary Wilber Obituary

Mary Lou Wilber passed away Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, surrounded by her family. All five generations were present and the legacy of ''a mother''s love'' will forever be remembered. Mary was born in 1927 to Mamie Christianson Watson and Lyle A. Watson in Grand Forks, N.D. At age 12, she moved to the San Fernando Valley with her mother and sister, Barbara. Mary was well recognized for her beautiful blue eyes and friendly, hospitable nature. She was gifted with a wonderful voice and performed throughout her teen years with Edward Everett Horton''s group of young singers in Sherman Oaks, Calif. She graduated from Canoga Park High School. Mary married her high school sweetheart, Harry, in 1945 - they enjoyed 60 years together. In 1952, they moved to Morro Bay and raised three sons. It was a great life in a small fishing town. She was also proud of her life-long membership in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Mary met everyone with her kindness and genuine concern. She was a devoted and loyal friend forever. The network of phone friends kept her busy during many hours of the day. She loved her connection to family and friends and was blessed with many. The family is grateful for Hospice Partners and the wonderful staff at Creston Village. Mary is survived by three loving sons, Tom (Susan) of Paso Robles, Chris (Debbie) of Oregon, and Jon (Genia) of Costa Mesa, Calif.; seven grandchildren Tammy (Roger) Haas of Morro Bay, Tina (Larry) Knight of San Miguel, Randy (Elisha) Wilber of San Miguel, Dori Wilber, Christopher (Heather) Wilber, Jon (Jennifer) Wilber, all of Oregon, and Jason Boyd of Costa Mesa; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; sister, Barbara (Gene) Gillaspie of St. Helens, Ore.; and two nieces. Join the family for graveside services at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at the Cayucos Cemetery, followed by a reception at Calvary Lutheran Church, 480 Monterey Ave. in Morro Bay. We invite you to honor and celebrate an extraordinary woman. See her guest book at sanluisobispo.com/obituaries

The Barnett women will surely miss Mary and her extraordinary life that we all shared as in-laws for over 33 years. What a gal and we have so many memories. We had planned to be together in Creston Village but she got there before I did and she couldn't wait. Harry called. I will miss her so much when we spent every summer together for over 10 years. Our loss is heaven's gain.....

Mary was such a fun, wonderful person. I remember sitting with her at my family's breakfast bar laughing and sharing stories with my mom Dolores. She could get a laugh out of just about any situation and I will never forget her laugh! She was always stylish and generous with lovely hand-me down formals for me to wear to Rainbow functions. I always thought of her as more of an auntie than our neighbor. Chris, Tom, Jon and families, Mary was loved by all who knew her.

I have such fond memories of Mary and Harry living on Sandalwood. Mary, a beauty inside and out was always a joy. Tammy, Mary was the one that said we should meet and have have our girls play. What a special time that was. I am so sorry Tammy and my thoughts and prayers are with you, Roger, the girls and your entire family.
Love from Karen and Carley

Mary was my granny and I want to say that she was one of the best grandma's as well as great grandma's anyone could have!! I was truly blessed to be with her at the end to rub her feet and legs, massage her head and comb her beautiful hair and I couldn't be prouder because she would of done the same for me. As selfish as this may seem, I did not want her to go but I knew she was going to be with my papa Harry too. I will miss our conversations, your beauty, those "blue eyes" and the love you showed us all!! Thanks for being a inspiration to me. All my love!!

To all of Mary's family we send our prayers. Loosing parents creates a place in our hearts that we never knew existed. I too lived just down the street from Harry & Mary Wilber in Morro Bay for many years. Great memories of us walking Rabbit Road to school for years. That was so nice to hear that several generations were able to visit Mary recently. Get well Chris. Richard & Janice Gardner

Dear Tom, Chris, and Jon,

I didn't know your mom, but judging from the other online entries, she must have been a very caring, kind, and helpful woman.

I was attracted to reading the obituary because your mom appeared to be such a lively and vivacious lady. Then I read that she lived in Grand Forks, North Dakota for the first twelve years of her life, and this really got my attention because I spent the first 18 years of my life in Crookston, Minnesota which is only about 25 miles from Grand Forks, and I was born in 1928. I recently wrote a book (Remembering Crookston: A Minnesota Memoir) which was first published as a weekly series of 79 articles in the Crookston Daily Times that I thought might interest you.

My sympathy,

Chuck Dowdle

I remember living next door to the Wilber's growing up on Sandlewood Drive in Morro Bay. I went to school with Chris and Debbie and my brother knew Tom. I could always find my mom over at Mary's house visiting and talking. Those were the memories that I will never forget. God bless. My family was Vern and Arden Buck.
