Victoria Slothower Obituary

June 1948 ''" October 2010 Victoria Slothower died peacefully Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, surrounded by her family. She died of breast cancer after a long battle in which she showed both humor and courage through out. Vickie was an active member of her community wherever she lived. She volunteered her time and love in her daughter''s schools when they were growing up as well as being active in her grandchildren''s schools, whether it was planting and tending to the school garden or helping in the classroom. Vickie loved to volunteer her time, talents and love and was active in many causes, be it advocating for the homeless or making sure animals had a voice or her passion was the same. She was a member of Last Chance for Animals and PETA. Vickie moved with her husband, "Cap," to San Luis Obispo from Santa Barbara in 2008 and quickly made many friends in the community. Victoria wanted to thank her friends, Lorie and Peti, who saw her through to the end. Thank you! Vickie is survived and will be missed by her beloved husband and friend, Richard "Cap" Slothower; two daughters Samantha (Dan) and Ashley (Billy); five wonderful grandchildren Dylan, Travis, Lauren, Dylan and Billy; sister, Kate DelRoss (Mike); and a wonderful, loving extended family. She was predeceased by her mother, brother, older sister and nephew. A service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at the Community Church of Atascadero UCC, 5850 Rosario Ave. in Atascadero, followed by a potluck celebration of Vickie''s life at 3:30 p.m. at Spooners Cove. In lieu of flowers Vickie''s family requests donations be made to "The Vickie Hodson Memorial Fund" at Heritage Oaks Bank to benefit the many charities she supported. Dear Cap,
I am so sorry to hear of Vickie. I knew you both such a short time but you made a lasting impression. Vickie always shined in beauty inside and out. My thoughts and Prayers are with you and your Family

I was saddened to read this in Sunday's paper. Although I did not know Vickie long or all that closely, it was apparent what a truly wonderful, caring person I had the privilege to know. She always brightened my day, as I am sure with everyone else.
"Cap", we share your sorrow, but are assuaged by the memories of all the "goodness" that Vickie brought to all of us.

Sorry for your loss. I have always remembered working with Vickie and "Cap" in the past and both are wonderful people.

An amazing mother, grandmother, wife, friend...she is missed daily. I never really knew just how many lives she touched...it is overwhelming to hear from all just how much she meant to others and all she did for others. Someone we can all aspire to be like!
