Arender, H. L. (Jim), Arender, H. L. (Jim), 73, formerly of Santa Fe, NM, died November 14, 2012 at the Veterans Hospital in Bay Pines, Florida. Born in Stillwater, OK, Jim was an Army Veteran, serving as a Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of the U.S. Army Parachute Team and was a World Champion parachutist. Jim was the first American to win a Gold Medal in parachuting. He worked for many years as a parachuting instructor and technical advisor. He is survived by two brothers, Eric Arender, New Orleans, and Max Vickers, Houston, TX, and a nephew, Peter Arender, Barbados. Interment services with military honors will be 11:15 AM Monday, December 3, 2012 at Santa Fe National Cemetery, followed by a memorial service from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Hilton Santa Fe Historic Plaza, 100 Sandoval St., Santa Fe, NM 87501; Ph. 505-988-2811. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Fund.
