Joseph Benjamin Marta
Joseph (Joe) Benjamin Marta, also known as "Red Dog", 58, passed away on March 13, 2011 after a 3 year battle with Frontotemporal Dementia. Joe was born on November 29, 1952 in Santa Maria, Ca
Joe attended and graduated from St. Mary's Elementary School and St. Joseph High School, class of 1971. He was a part of the first graduating class of St. Joe's that attended all 4 years. He also received his associates degree from Allan Hancock College.
Joe started his early career with the Marta-Consorti Salvage Business (Sanford & Son). He and his friends had several other entrepreneur business ventures. He later bartended at the Vandenberg Inn and various other establishments. He went to work for Juvenile Hall in Santa Maria and the California Youth Authority School for Boys in Paso Robles. He was also on their Swat Team. He retired from the State Dept. of Corrections and then decided to follow the sun. He and his wife Eva bought an RV and went on to travel, working and managing at different RV Parks. His last gig ended at his favorite place on earth, Malibu Ca.
Joe was a member of the Elks 2799 Deming, New Mexico. He loved the outdoors and one of his favorite activities was jogging the beaches and hills of Malibu. He was passionate about excerise and had his Black Belt in Tai Kwan Do. He loved his midnight barbecues with his friends and was a huge USC Football Fan. Joe LIVED and loved life to the fullest . It was always a party and great time when you were around him, he was a true Irishman in every way. Joe you "Did it your way" with no regrets. "Fight On" Red Dog, "Right Here Right Now!" You will be in our hearts forever.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Eva, his parents Frank and Irene Marta. Sisters, Sue Marta, Sandy and Walt Redding, Shannon and Craig Olivera, Sherry and Mark Zimmer. Step-kids, Angie and Ray. Grandkids, Andrea, Gina, Jesse, and 3 great grandkids. Nieces and nephews, Kristin, Matt and Meghan Olivera, Chad, Lauren, Brooke and Brent Zimmer. We would like to give a special thanks to his loving "Band of Brothers" Steve, Brad and Roy. We will never forget your endless love and comfort during this time and all the years you have known Joe. We love you guys, and all of his great friends.
A memorial and celebration of his life will be on Saturday March 19 at 10:00 am, at Dudley Hoffman Mortuary. Reception to follow services In his honor there will be " The Wearing of the Green" if you wish to participate.

Dear Martas & all friends:
Mom & Kathy keep me up to date so I have been aware of Joe's illness. I am so sorry for your loss. One of my funniest memories when I was 15? I went to "sneak out" got caught fully dressed in the hall then it was really blown because Joe & who knows who else were out in front of my house honking the horn of that VW van. Pretty sneaky!Sue,thinking of you especially my love to everyone. Kathy will give you a hug from me...
