George Camden Clark
1926 -2010
George Camden Clark passed away peacefully in Santa Maria on October 27, 2010.
George was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to Albert and Beatrice Clark on March 10, 1926, and graduated from St. James High School in Winnipeg.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Albert Clark, Charles Clark and sister, Marguerite (Clark) McKenzie, all of Manitoba, Canada.
After his marriage to Eileen Margaret Eger on April 3, 1948, George and Eileen resided in Fort William (now Thunder Bay) Ontario, Canada where he was employed as manager of Dow's Auto Electric. He and Eileen moved to Rialto, California in 1952 where George was employed as a parts manager for two automobile dealerships. In 1956 he began employment as a claim's adjuster for Allstate Insurance until he retired in 1981 as a supervising claims examiner handling large personal injury claims. He and Eileen moved to Santa Maria, CA in 1985. He often expressed his good fortune in residing on the beautiful California Central Coast.
George was a man of many interests and skills. He was an excellent woodworker, mechanic, electrician and plumber. He did not encounter much that he could not fix or improve. Throughout his life, George enjoyed the great outdoors, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved boating and owned a succession of boats. George also obtained a single engine pilot's license and owned multiple aircraft. In retirement, George and Eileen took many wonderful motorhome adventures and traveled extensively throughout the continental U.S., Alaska and Canada.
George was deeply loved and is survived by Eileen, his wife of 62 years; his two sons, Gregory S. Clark (and Ann) of Los Olivos, CA and Brian J. Clark (and Robin) of New Hope, PA; his Granddaughter, Brenda E. (Clark) (and Cory) Cloud and great-grandchildren, Jackson and Cierra of Ojai, CA; Grandson, Wade R. Clark of Los Angeles, CA and Granddaughter, Kelly J. Clark of New York, NY.
George was a devoted spouse, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who lived by the Golden Rule and taught his family by example to value hard work, honesty and integrity.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and respect for Dr. James Sweeny and his staff for their professional and personal care. Special thanks are also due to the compassionate caregivers at the Country Oaks Care Center.
The family would also like to give thanks for the special services rendered by Roy Allen, Director of the local
Alzheimer's Association and Gary and Lori Gross of Dementia Care Associates of Santa Maria.
In accordance with his wishes there will be no formal services. Cremation will be followed by a private celebration of George's life. In lieu of flowers, George would want to be remembered by donations directed to Roy Allen, Director of the
Alzheimer's Association, California Central Coast Chapter, 528 So. Broadway, Santa Maria, CA 93454 or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
