I met Chris Schuberth at an employee orientation meeting for Burlington County, New Jersey, newbies in early 2007. We were working in different libraries within the county library system. Our conversation was brief, but I was impressed. After that, I expected to see notices of programs he was leading in his library, and when I did not, I inquired of someone at his branch. It was then that I learned the sad news of his passing. Those at his library were devastated, understandably so. I wish I had been able to know Chris, but the fact that I still remember him 17 years after we briefly met speaks volumes. It is wonderful to read the tributes to him here, knowing he touched so many others. God Bless you, Chris, and thank you for all the good you did in your life.

Chris opened up the world of Geology and mineralogy to me at Hunter College in the late 1960s and it is still a passion of mine all of these decades later. It is a living tribute to his skills as an educator that something such as this can endure through time. When conversation turns to "How did you get interested in.....?", I proudly let people know that a person named Christopher Schuberth introduced me to Geology/mineralogy and it is a passion of mine to this very day....Thank you so much Chris for a lifetime of enjoyment.

Did not know that Christopher Schuberth to me and my mind he is very much alive. I have his great book on The Geology of New York City. I took his course at the American Museum of Natural History about the geology of the city and surrounding areas. Chris was very important to me in 1973 -74 when he help me applied for Clay Pit Pond Area about 250 acres on Staten Island south west shore to be become a State Park mostly because of it geology.
I will never forget his willingness to help out. His signed book is one of my prized collection .

I will forever remember Chris as the man who opened up the world of geology to me. I took Chris' basic class way back in my freshman year at Hunter College and he made geology come alive for me. I am well into my 70s now and I still attend rock and mineral shows, still regard geology and paleontology as a prime interest of mine. Chris literally gave me a passion for the subject that has lasted a lifetime. That, is an inspired teacher and a lasting memory for his well deserved legacy.

In one's life there are typically one or two pivotal individuals or events that chart the future course of events for a person. Chris was one of those individuals for me. Because of him, I developed a lifelong love of the Earth Sciences and Geology in particular. Because of him, I obtained a teaching license in the Earth Sciences. Chris was a pivotal person for me and for that, he will always be in my mind and a part of my life experience. Whenever I hold a mineral, fossil or rock specimen, I know that I understand what it is because of Chris.

I first met Chris back in college, when I took my first Geology course at Hunter College of CUNY. He made Geology come alive for me. He was a wonderful and inspiring educator, such that I majored in Geology and went on to get my teaching license in the Earth Sciences. I still have the first printing of his book in my library (with his autograph). It has been scores of years since I took that first course and I still think about him whenever I go to a rock and mineral show. He gave me a lifetime of understanding and enjoyment of our natural world. This is a wonderful gift that has lasted me a lifetime, for that, I am forever grateful.

Though I knew Chris personally only for a short time as he became the new Sec.-Treas. of the History of Geology Division/GSA, I really enjoyed our time together. I had admired and used his NYC Geology book for many years, so I was really happy to finally meet and get to know him. We in the HoG Division/GSA will greatly miss him.

I never tired of hearing Chris lecture his geology students. His enthusiasm and booming voice captured the attention of everyone including those walking down the halls! I am fortunate to have worked with him and to have learned from him.

Chris Schuberth was a remarkable man who got me involved in the education of children through the Savannah Science Museum. I learned many techniques for teaching from his guidelines that I utilize to this day. I will always be thankful for that.
Mr. Schuberth also saved my skin a couple of times by coming to my defense with his gift for writing the most diplomatic letters on this planet which calmed even the harshest of critics.
His knowledge of Geology was exceptional, and I was always fascinated to hear his lectures on this topic.
Lastly, his dedication to those he cared about was second to none. I was truly shocked to hear of his passing, and I will always remember him with many fond memories.
My sympathy goes out to the entire Schuberth family in your time of loss.

We at the Army Education Center at Fort Stewart were honored to have known Professor Schuberth. He was the AASU face for the Troops to Teachers program and spent much time helping Soldiers and Family members pursue their desire to teach. He was a delight to be around and will be sorely missed.

Chris was a geologist and I'm a geographer, but we had overlapping interests, and many conversations about these as we encountered each other on the AASU campus. He led at least two memorable fieldtrips: a canoe voyage down the Ogeechee River and a tour of the kaolin mines in central Georgia. He has already been missed around here since he moved to New Jersey, and now, sad to say, he will be missed even more.

Chris was the calm in many a storm within the College of Education at Armstrong. I missed his level head and sage advice when he returned home. He also took with him his expertise in rocks. I thought they were pretty - he taught me that they were full of history. May your family find solace in the knowledge that he was respected and he was loved. He left a void at Armstrong Atlantic State University that no one has been able to fill.
Chris, may your soul roam freely throughout the geology fields of this magnificent world for all eternity.
