Eugene grew up in my neighborhood and also I went all the way through school with him. He had a wonderful smile and will always admire him for his courage to face life head on. I am so sorry to the family for their loss. We were all blessed by having known him.

Today, Sally and I went back to Riverview to wrap up things, and take a basket of Eugene's flowers. I went to his room and thanked his room mate for alerting the nurses.
Now we begin the process of moving on, but it is so hard, because for Sally and I, it's like losing a son, not just a brother and brother-in-law. To many, they thought that Eugene was Sally's brother, for the loving care that she gave for almost six years after mother passed away before I retired, as well as the thirteen months since I retired and was able to help her get him to the doctors, take him shopping for Dr. Peppers, and lemon cookies, and go to Carey Hillard's for "Fish and Shrimp".
We finished the evening, with our new tradition for Eugene, going thru the drive-thru at Dairy Queen for an ice cream cone. It seemed so strange without him, but we made a salute to him.
For a little over a year now, Eugene had told so many, that he was adopted. When asked who adopted you, he would say, Wesley Jr. and Sally. So you see, for Sally and I, it is like losing a son.
In closing, I want to thank all those who helped him get thru 65 years, as well as those helping us get thru our grief. His joking, his smile, and his gentle innocence as a child, will be greatly missed!
