Evelyn Evans

Evelyn Evans, 87, a resident of Seton Manor Senior Living Center, Orwigsburg, and a former resident of 140 Quality Hill, Gilberton, died Friday at Seton Manor.

Born in Maizeville, May 20, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Billy and Anna Kostishak Billy.

Evelyn was employed for 35 years as a clerk at JC Penny.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Maizeville.

She was a member of the St. John's Holy Rosary Society and the Sacred Heart Society.

Evelyn also served as a tax collector for the borough of Gilberton.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 1990; and two sisters, Mary Omlar and Ann Manderlink.

She is survived by two sons, William and his wife, Joy Evans, Pottsville, and David and his wife, Jean Ann Evans, Gilberton; a daughter, Sandy and her husband, George Schlemmer, Shenandoah; six grandchildren, George William Schlemmer, New Jersey, Martha Schlemmer Lindenmuth and her husband, Richard, Mahanoy City, William and Elrena Evans, Paoli, Bryn and Amanda Evans, Houston, Texas, Michael Evans, Reading, and Janna Evans, Houston, Texas; five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc., 40 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by the Rev. Archpriest John M. Fields at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Maizeville. Interment will follow Liturgy in Skyview Memorial Park, Hometown. Friends may call from 8 a.m. until the time of funeral services at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to St. John's memorial fund, 45 S. Second St., Frackville, PA 17931.
