Mary,I just heard of your loss. While I worked at Visiting Angels I loved to talk to him and even got the chance to see him and your mom. He will be greatly missed in my heart.

I am so sorry for your loss. Thanks to our fathers becoming friends, as well as neighbors, I have many wonderful memories of your father – sitting around the fire pit on our patio, bringing his tomato/onion concoction (Frim Fram as I recall) to summer dinners, cooking salmon in his own fireplace, and trying to convince me to go to medical school instead of law school. His sense of humor was wonderful as was his kindness. He eventually agreed with me that not all lawyers were bad – some could actually be helpful. He will be missed.

One Spring morning in 1963, while a medical student on teaching rounds at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, our Professor, Max Allen, M.D., related that he had heard from his friend in Seattle, Dr. van Citters, who had been his student/resident/fellow a few years prior. He said that the envelope contained a twig with a budding leaf the size of a mouse's ear. That was Dr. van Citters' way of telling him “it's time to go fishing!” My condolences to the family. Best wishes to his grandchildren whose care was entrusted to me. Herb Hilgers, M.D.

Mary, I am so sorry to hear this news. Last time I saw your father was when graduated from high school, and I will always remember him that way. Such a powerful presence, but full of unexpected humor.
