For my Auntie.

When I think of Auntie I think of beauty, strength and flowers. When I think of her I think of the radiant beauty queen who, beneath the pretty and petite façade, was one of the strongest women I have ever known. In her lifetime she raised a family, ran a business, cultivated a farm and even sewed my prom dress! I could only hope to be able to do half the things she has done.

When I think of my Auntie I think of the beautiful flowers she planted, tended to and neatly arranged into colorful bouquets. I can still picture her, swirling in the middle of bright flowers everywhere at the market-beauty surrounded by beauty.

I think of all the flowers she has planted and all the flower bulbs that will bloom long after she is gone. In her life she was much like those perennial flowers she planted. No matter how harsh the weather these blossoms always manage to find the strength to flower and bloom and amaze us with their delicate beauty. Like her lovely flowers, she always brought joy and smiles to all who were in her presence. And even though she is no longer with us, her legacy will still continue to bloom.

She has left this earth and in her absence we deeply grieve. For her presence was one of true light and love that filled our lives with her warmth. Now, when I see beautiful flowers I will forever think of her. Whenever I look at budding flowers ready to bloom and grace us with their fragile beauty I will see her warm and welcoming smile.

Every spring as daffodils and crocus break through the soil to reach their heads up towards the sun I will smile and think of the full life she has lived. I will think of her and find peace because I know she has found her sunny place in the gardens of heaven and I know she is basking in the warmth of God’s love.
