Charles Puzzo Obituary

Charlie B. Puzzo

Charlie passed away on November 28, 2015; he was 93 years old.Charlie was born in Hartford, Connecticut on June 29, 1922. He served in WWII in the Pacific on the USS Birmingham, which he received a Purple Heart. He moved to Seattle in 1950 and owned many highly successful entertainment venues: beginning with The Playboy; The Penthouse, his renowned jazz nightclub; and ending his career in entertainment with Good-Time Charley's. Charlie loved life and everyone who met him, felt embraced and loved by his positive energy and tremendous gift of making everyone feel special. As a result of his tremendous success in business and real estate, he enjoyed retirement for over 35 years: entertaining, reading, traveling, and landscaping with the love of his life, his wife, Joyce Nanci Puzzo.

Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved son, Dino Charles Puzzo in 2007. Surviving his death is his beautiful and loving wife of almost 60 years, Joyce, and his two children, Charles Dominick Puzzo and Toni Puzzo Canady. He left three grandchildren: Dominick Charles Canady, Mia and Kirin Puzzo; his brother Joseph Puzzo's children and his cousins in California, Chuck, Roger and Joe Cusamano.

He will be honored and interned at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington in a private ceremony. Sign Charlie's on line Guest Book at www.Legacy.com.

Charlie would let my friends and myself stand in the doorway at the Penthouse Jazz club when we were 15- 16 years old to listen to Miles Davis. We were all just beginning to be jazz musicians and he gave us the opportunity to listen to the master. Thanks Charlie for your kindness and understanding. Many of the musicians that played at the Penthouse came to a Jazz club where we played called The Llahngaelhyn near the U district. He unified the Jazz community

I use to stand glued to that tiny window of The Penthouse to listen to the music pouring on to the street from the bandstand from some of the greats of Jazz. I'll never forget Mr. Puzzo inviting me in to listen, knowing full well I was under age and without covercharge. I thought that was extraordinary.

I worked for Mr. Puzzo for a time doing some odd jobs on his property before I moved away from the area. Charlie always treated me well and respectfully we had a great trust with one another. He was always there to great me with a cold drink and a sandwich after a hard days work hauling firewood and clearing brush. He was always a pleasure to be around. I think of him from time to time. My condolences to the family even though a little late. -Steve Power

As a lifelong friend of Charlie's daughter, Toni, I have had ample opportunity through the decades to feel the blessing of him in my life, too. I think in many ways, he taught me how to be a good host because of the never failing way he made you feel welcomed and valued. He will be missed, but I have to feel that if the party hadn't already started in Heaven, then Charlie will show them how it's done.

Thank you Joyce and Toni for sharing him with the rest of us.

Oh Joyce, you and the family are in my heart. Charley was the absolute best and I will remember all his advice and love forever.

I knew Charlie as one of the most up-beat personalities. You couldn't feel sorry for yourself around him because he wouldn't let you. Charlie was blessed with unending strength which he passed on to everyone he met. Some of us are better people because of that association. My condolences to his lovely wife Joyce and the rest of the family.

Sorry to hear about Charlie's passing. He was a great guy. It's been a number of years since Our daughters were in dancing classes together. We did have a lot of laughs together.

I knew Charley since the early 60's at the Playboy and Penthouse. Spent many hours there. He was the "Professor" of bartenders and bar owners. While most bartenders would bounce back and forth talking to one customer and then another, Charley would get all the customers talking to each other instead. A great friend for many years. My condolences to his family and friends.

I remember Charlie always being in a good mood. I remember his great laugh. I worked as a lunch cook in the kitchen of Good Time Charlies in Woodinville. I was just 21, early 1970's. Never a dull moment, between the customers and the girls!
Condolences to all the family.
