Helen Davies Obituary

Helen Mansfield Davies

Our beloved mother, Helen Mansfield Davies, age 97 & a half, of Seattle, WA died July 15, 2014. She passed away peacefully in her Green Lake home. Helen, born January 25, 1917, was the daughter of Alta and Austin Mansfield and younger sister of Barbara Fish. Helen shared a long and happy married life with husband Bill Davies for 62 years before his passing in 2002. They were both graduates of Lincoln High School. Helen was the very proud mother of four children: James, Robert, Gary and Betty Lou. She is survived by Robert (Bev), Gary (Karen), Betty Lou (Lynne), and granddaughter Jennifer, as well as great-grandchildren Chloe and Georgie and loving nieces Joan and Shirley and their families. Everyone who met Helen could see her genuine enthusiasm for life. You could always count on her sharp intellect and charming sense of humor. She was devoted to her family and shared as much time as possible enjoying family adventures, from camping as a child, to picnics as a young married woman, special birthdays and holidays with children, adventures to Hawaii, dancing with her husband, road trips around the Western States and frequent fun with bingo and casinos in her later years. Helen was known for her special sewing talents and her ability to make a warm and inviting home where everyone felt immediately welcome. She loved to laugh and greeted everyone with a smile and a compliment that infused the day with joy. She will be greatly missed and constantly remembered by her family and friends. Dear Bob, Gary, and Betty Lou,

Last week, my sister Vicki sent the notice from the TIMES of your mom's passing. I was really sorry to hear the news. I kept up with her and your dad with an annual Christmas note through the nineties, but hadn't heard from them for a long time. She was such a nice woman. I have good memories of her from the time you lived on Ninth and Jim and I were best friends. She was always kind, friendly, welcoming to me. I remember a time when she painted (or your dad did) the kitchen pink and white. My mother fell in love with the color scheme and immediately painted our kitchen the same colors. I think of Jim often, wonder if he would've become a painter if he had lived. I'm painting full time now and am part owner of a gallery in Honolulu.

I'm sorry for your loss. Best to you and your families.

Aloha, Roger Whitlock

I have not seen Helen for many years, yet as soon as I saw the photo in the paper I absolutely knew who it was. Her hair may have changed color, but her smile is exactly the same as is the way she has her hand up. I knew her when she lived on 83rd & 9th NW and was often in her home. She let me earn a little money by doing some ironing for her. I used to shoot hoops with her oldest son James as Bill and Helen had a basketball hoop attached to their garage door. My brother Roger and her son Bob were best friends for many years and sometimes I babysat the two youngest ones. My goodness, what memories. My condolences to all of you.

Where do you start with this lovely lady?
I am so honored to have known this woman and to have been fortunate enough to know her my entire life and call her aunty. I will miss her, her smile and laugh, her hugs, everything. She was always so genuine and excited to be talking to you, no matter what. I can still hear her voice crystal clear, so joyful. It's hard to know that I will never see her again, we all are feeling that I'm sure.. I will miss her cute quirks, Stephen Colbert lost his number one fan for sure. I love telling people about that, they get such a kick out of it and that's just one of many funny and unique quirks about this special lady. I will never be able to look at him without thinking of her. We will miss you so much Aunty..

Love always,
Lauren.

I will always remember the sparkle in her eye the moment she would see me and it would always remain until I left no matter how long the visit. Aunty Helen had that special quality of making you feel the most important person in the room. She would always remind me that "She" was the one to give me my first bath and it was always with much pride. It was something I don't recall her mentioning to me until ten or so years ago. She waited until she knew it was the proper time. From then on she would make a point to remind me every time I saw her. Unconditional love, grace, class, warmth, humor and the upmost example of family. To me, that is my Aunty Helen and while I will miss her so. I know she could not be in better company now.
With more love and thankfulness than I could ever express.

We were so blessed to have had Auntie Helen for as long as we did, and it comforts me to know that there are so many that waited a long time to greet her on this phase of her journey. Auntie Helen has always held a special place in my heart. I have some very fond memories, from her famous Mac and Cheese lunches, Halloween's as a child and brunches at Clair's in Lake City. Her love of pink and green, stickers and ladybugs. I LOVE YOU AUNTIE HELEN, Give Grandma, Uncle Bill, Nana and all a BIG LOVE for me!

with much love, Lisa
