Whenever I think of Jeff, I think of "firsts". He was the first person I met in Seattle. He helped me get my first job. I had my first oyster shooter with him. He built the bathroom cabinet for my first house. He was the first person I saw light a tree on fire with a firecracker ;). I agree with all the entries here about his nature. He was just a first-rate guy and I would not be the person I am today if he had not helped me through my twenties with learning life's lessons. I thank the universe for the life of Jeff Hanley, and I am grateful that he was my brother's friend.

Whenever I think if Jeff, I will think of "firsts". He was the first person I met in Seattle. He helped me get my first job. I had my first oyster shooter with
him. He built the bathroom cabinet for my first house. He was the first person I ever saw light a tree on fire with a firecracker (!!!!) and oh the list goes on. He was just a first rate guy and I will miss him always. I would not be the person I am today if he had not been there for me in my twenties, and I am always grateful that he was my brothers friend.

I dated Jeff back in the 80's-he was a wonderful, happy person to be with. A good friend. Great writer. My mother loved him. His smile and laugh were infectious and I knew that whomever married him would be very lucky, and that his kids would shine from his example. What a great guy.

Chris, Chloe, Bill, Helen and Sharon, I am so very sorry for your loss. Jeff was one of the first friends my husband and I made in Seattle many decades ago, and we had so much fun together. He was a good friend. Jeff was lively, fun, funny, considerate, kind, generous, steady, smart, inquisitive, capable, knowledgeable....to name a few qualities.
We will miss him; he was a good presence in the world.
