I knew Laurie as the mom of Elaine and Margo. She came regularly to our Easter picnics and for many years threw an annual open house in her home at Christmas.
Laurie was a woman of great intelligence and style who was able to make everyone she met feel comfortable and honored. Laurie followed her dreams and lived a full and useful life, raising two wonderful daughters to do the same.
Laurie was an inspiration to all and will be missed by her loving family and many friends. A life well lived! Rest in peace, dear lady- Shelley

I have burned a candle every night since learning of the death of mom's (Myrtle S. Pierce) dear and treasured friend. We keep you - Elaine and Margo and family lifted in our prayers. It was with fortitude, pride, humility, care, compassion and fierce independence that Laurie M Gunter lived her life. What a treasure and blessing that she and mom shared 70+ years of friendship and love over these years. We are thankful for her life, lifes work and the many people's lives she touched. She leaves an indelible mark on mine. We (Myrtle and the Pierce girls) will miss her, but know that we will feel her presence and spirit always.

We exchanged only a few phone calls on business matters, but it was easy to know Dr. Gunter was a lady of education, generosity of spirit...and wisdom. We are all diminished by her passing.

Laurie, you were a source of inspiration, joy, and wisdom. My son Antwi, my mom, Geneva, and I grieve at the loss of a great woman, full of "guts" and humility who forged her way through uncharted territories everywhere she went. No bullet-proof vest for her. . .no excuses, just hard work. Love U Girl. . . You will be missed!
