Willie Sligh Obituary

Willie A. SLIGH Born April 1, 1954 in Greenville, SC and died, age 55, on October 5, 2009 in Kirkland, WA. Willie passed away after a valiant battle with colon cancer. He is survived by his wife, Mary, sons Derek (Stephanie Behrens) and Jeff Allen (Tracie) and their children Abby, Wyatt, Shane, and Laine. He is also survived by his father, Albert B. Sligh Sr., mother, Thelma Bogan, stepfather, Doug Long, brothers, Albert B. Sligh Jr. (Nicole) and Luther Sligh (Pam) and his large extended family. Willie grew up in Seattle and resided in Bothell, WA. In the 1970's Willie enjoyed playing bass in several popular bands including, Acapulco Gold, with his brother, Tommy, who pre-deceased him. Willie spent a long career in the delivery business with Baby Diaper Service and DHL. He was also a photographer. Willie was a longtime Seahawk fan and ultimate 12th man. Willie enjoyed watching sports, nice cars, and spending time at our vacation home at Lake Tyee. Our family would like to thank all those in the medical community that supported Willie through his illness along with the friends and family that also supported us this past year. Willie was able to make his peace with the Lord and celebrating this decision with him and the spiritual growth that occurred during this past year was truly a blessing. We are honoring Willie's life with a memorial service next Friday, October 16th at Northlake Christian Church in Bothell, WA. Details and online guestbook can be found at www.washelli.com. In lieu of flowers the family requests that remembrances be made to either the Matt Talbot Center in Seattle or the Cascades Raptor Center in Eugene, OR.

Mary, Jeff, & Derrick,
Our Bothell neighborhood was better because of the presence of your family, especially Willie's cheerful, helpful attitude. Alex and Tony still display the photos Willie gave them of Michael Jordan and our dog,Nooski. We are better for having known him.

May our eternal Fether welcome the soul of His servant, Willie, into His loving arms and may He bless and comfort all who mourn for him.

I want to express our heartfelt condolences from the Botler family.Although I was around Luther more, I remember Willie's smile and peaceful demeaner while watching him play music along with Tommy and The Gold.We were both born in 1954 (April 29) so I know there's some funk going on in heaven now, if ever. Rest in peace Willie. Also,God Bless to the rest of the family.
