Rute VIRSNIEKS Our beloved mother passed away January 21,2010 in Seattle,at the age of 98. She was born on October 25,1911 in Aizpute, Latvia, the daugh ter of Vilis and Otilija Grintals, and has been a resident of Seattle for 50 years. Along with our father she pro vided our family a new and reward ing life in the United States of Ameri ca by fleeing the terrible times of the Second World War and the Soviet tyranny that ensued in 1944 via Germany and England. During her many retirement years she enjoyed very much bicycling around Green lake, composing poetry, creative writing classes, tai chi, putt putt golf and German conversation meetings with son Andris. She, also especially enjoyed her annual visits with her niece Dzintra and her family in Alas ka. And need we say her many shop ping trips downtown? She was preceded in death by her husband Janis Virsnieks of 55 years. Survived by loving sons Imants Virsnieks of San Diego, Andris Virsnieks and wife Jessica Stevens of Seattle, Egils Virsnieks of Seattle, loving grandchildren Gillian L.V. Eichhorst, Meaghan C. Virsnieks both of Virginia and numerous niec es and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews in the United States and Latvia. Memorial service will be held at the Latvian Church, 11710 3rd AVE NE, Seattle, WA. 98125. 1:00 pm. January 30, 2010. In lieu of flowers, memori als may be made to Latvian Evan gelical Lutheran Church or charity of your choice. Please sign online guestbook at www.washelli.com.

Our mother was born today 100 years ago. She and my brothers and granddaughters are in my thoughts today as I listen to the ocean in Ocean Beach San Diego.
