Velta Zommers

Velta ZOMMERS May 15, 1924 ~ January 24, 2010 Velta Zommers, of Sun Lakes, AZ was born of Latvian parents in Harbin, China. At a young age Velta's parents emigrated back to their native Latvia where she spent her formative years under a free and democratic government until the start of WWII. During the war years she finished high school and in late 1944 she along with her parents fled to Germany to escape the Soviet Communist rule. In Germany she became one of the millions of refugees and because of her birth country she was able to immigrate to the USA in 1946 and settled in Seattle, WA where she married, worked as Radiological Technologist and raised her family. In 1993 she and her husband moved to Sun Lakes where they spent their years swimming, singing, dancing and traveling. Velta will be greatly missed by her family and friends and they take comfort in knowing that she is now in His eternal care and warm embrace. Velta is survived by her beloved husband Andris, daughters Shirley Tudhope and Evie Edwards and grandchildren Ryan Tudhope and Erin Edwards. A memorial service for Velta will be held at 2:00 PM on February 20th at the Latvian Lutheran Church on 11710 3rd Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98125.
