Mary Keith Barton

A memorial service for Mary Keith Barton will be held at 4 PM Saturday, January 26 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Medina. Mary passed on January 13, 2013 surrounded by her children. She was born August 14, 1917 to Byron and Emma Keith in Seattle. A graduate of Roosevelt High School, she attended both WSU and the U. of W. In the summer 1939 while working at Sunrise on Mt. Rainier, she met her future husband James Barton. They were married in 1940 and moved to Hunts Point in 1944.

Mary was a lifelong volunteer; helping others was her passion. She was a member of the Seattle Milk Fund, a life member of Overlake Service League and the Charles B. Ford Orthopedic Circle, a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, a P.T.A. president and was always active in local schools. Raised during the depression, she knew both the importance of helping others and the value of friendship. Mary was a founding member of the Bellevue Arts and Craft Fair and the Hunts Point Garden Club. She was an avid gardener and loved all things of the natural world. Tennis was her activity of choice and she played well into her 80's. She read the Seattle Times every day.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Winter Barton, (October 1994) and is survived by her three children, Nancy Barton Holmes of Merced, CA, Mary Diana Lyons (Michael) of Kirkland, WA, and James Keith Barton (Karen) of Albany, OR. She left 7 grandchildren; Brian (Mary Kay), Colin (Wyokemia), James (Laura), and Kevin (Jessica) Holmes; Sarah Lyons Gibbons (John); Loren Barton, Kyler Barton and 5 great grandchildren.

Remembrances may be made to: Evergreen Hospice, 12040 N.E. 128th St., MS 5, Kirkland, WA 98034, Bellevue LifeSpring, P.O. Box 53203 Bellevue, WA 98015, St. Thomas Project Outreach, P.O. Box 124, Medina, WA 98039 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mary (Gigi ma) and our daughters shared an amazing love of melon. Every time they finish a watermelon in a single sitting I will think of her! Love you Gigi!

Dear Nancy, Keith and Diana, Susan and I send our deepest sympathies to you and your family. Your Mom was one of a kind and we enjoyed getting to know her and your Dad when we rented the little red house on Hunt's Point in the early 70's. We will miss like you and so enjoyed our visits with her and her yearly Christmas greetings. She lived a full and wonderful
life. God Bless you all.

I remember dropping by to see Mary and having one of many of our long chats. She was always so good to offer some help if asked for. I will miss her and keep her near my heart.
My condolences to all her children and family.
