Ann Barwick Obituary

Ann M. BARWICK Mother, teacher and advocate of American art. Ann's love of her family was unconditional and of utmost importance to her. She had 47 wonderful years with the love of her life Thomas Barwick and together they cherished their children Jon, Julia, Jennifer and Tom. She attended the University of Washington and graduated in 1955 with a degree in Education. For the first 25 years of Ann's married life, her most important focus was on raising their four children in Seattle. As their youngest child started first grade, Ann's life and her partnership with Tom began a new chapter. Ann returned to the University for a second degree, this time in Art History. Ann served as a Trustee at the Henry Gallery from 1980-1990 and at the Seattle Art Museum from 1990-2004. She was the head of the Art Committee for the Washington State Governor's Mansion, and co-founded the American Art Council of Seattle. Her gentle, hardworking habits and appreciation for beauty will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Ann died as she lived -- peacefully, with dignity, and at home with her husband and children. Ann is survived by her husband Tom; her children Jon (Julie), Julia (Gianpietro), Jennifer (Scott) and Tom (Danielle); her grandchildren Cam, Carly, Megan, Isabella and Graham; her brother John and his family. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Ann Barwick Flower and Endowment Fund at Seattle Art Museum.

Ann and Tom greeted me with warmth and kindness when I first arrived in Seattle in 1999. I will always remember Ann's graciousness and the joy she and Tom shared showing visitors their beautiful collection. My condolences to Tom and the Barwick family on their loss.

We are so sorry to hear of Ann's passing. Jeune and Oscar, over a period of about 40 years, talked so much about all of you that we felt we knew you well, even though we saw you infrequently.
