Beloved wife of Edwin A. Heafey Jr. passed away peacefully on March 8, 2017 surrounded by her family at her home in Oakland California. Mary was born in San Francisco, CA on September 20, 1941. Loving daughter of the late William and Pat Mahaney she grew up in Atherton CA and was a proud graduate of The Convent of the Sacred Heart, Menlo Park CA, and also attended Loyola Marymount College in Los Angeles CA.
Mary was an accomplished swimmer for the National Santa Clara swim club. In 1968, she married Everts W. Moulton. While in Los Angeles, she was very active as President of the John Thomas Dye School Mother's Club. She also was a member of the Blue Ribbon 400, Los Angeles music center. For many years Mary was honored to be on the Best Dressed list in Los Angeles. After returning to San Francisco, Mary was an active member of the San Francisco Opera Guild Board and a member of A.R.C.S. She was a dedicated member of the San Francisco Arthritis Foundation Board of Directors.
In 1999, she married Edwin A. Heafey Jr. and moved to the East Bay where she was a member of the Board of Trustees Alta Bates Summitt Medical Center, and a passionate member of the Piedmont Garden Club.
Mary, a loving Mother leaves behind her children Mary Kate Moulton, John Henry Moulton, Alison Heafey, Matt Heafey, and Ryan Heafey, and adoring Grandmother of Eloise, Sadie, Jack, Winters and Teddy. Mary was a caring sister of Katie Mahaney, Patty Mangan-Melim, and Michael Mahaney, and mother in law of Mimi Moulton and sister in law of Kaye and Richard Heafey. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend. There are no words to express how much we will miss her.
Mary's passions were her children, her family, her dogs and her garden. She cherished her wide circle of friends and in turn was admired for her strength, generosity, grace, and loving spirit.
Thanks are given to the medical professionals at UCSF including Dr Richard Glogau, Dr. Stephen Gluck. Their care and compassion allowed her to live a long life.
A private celebration of her life by family is planned.

I have a picture of Mary by my desk. We placed third on a relay at the National Swim Championships in 1956. She was an inspiration to me when I first joined the Santa Clara swim club. I always remember how beautiful and gracious she was. She remains in my thoughts and prayers always.

Condolences to the family. I've been Mary's insurance agent for 10 yrs and she was such a pleasure to talk to. We would talk about her insurance but we also enjoyed sharing stories about life in general. The last time I spoke with Mary, my last son whom she would constantly ask me about had just turned 3. He is now 4, it was like since he was born she would ask me on updates about him. Such a loving and caring woman. She will be missed.

I swam with Mary at the Santa Clara Swim Club in the 1950's. I looked up to her as she was a beautiful girl and wonderful swimmer. I will always have fond memories of our days together in chlorine-saturated pools.
I regret that we lost touch after our swimming days, but it appears that Mary had a fulfilling life.
