Kathleen Teresa Murphy

Kathleen passed away peacefully on June 1, 2015 at the age of 90 in South San Francisco. She was the beloved wife of the late John Murphy, loving mother of Dennis (Mary-Jo) and the late Kathy Borst (Daniel, deceased), and dear grandmother of Diana, Emily and Jonathan Murphy. Kathleen was born in San Francisco on May 4, 1925 to Irish immigrants, Andrew and Mary (née McElligott) Fitzgerald from County Kerry, and was preceded in death by her siblings Vincent, Patricia (Hettrich), and Jack.

Kathleen grew up in the Richmond District and attended Star of the Sea High School (class of 1943). She met John at a high school dance during her senior year. They dated for seven years (interrupted by his WWII service) and married in 1950. She worked for a few years before becoming a homemaker. They moved to the Sunset District where she remained a resident for sixty years. She was an active parishioner and member of the senior club of Holy Name Church, as well as a member of the Irish Cultural Center.

We thank the staff at Alma Via of San Francisco, Vitas Hospice, and Manalo's Board and Care for the extraordinary care given to Kathleen in her final days.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on June 8, 2015 at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 3240 Lawton St. (corner of 39th and Lawton St.) San Francisco, followed by interment at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 1500 Old Mission Road, Colma. Donations in Kathleen's memory may be made to a heart or lung charity of your choice.
