Josef Morawietz

Josef Morawietz Nov. 01, 1924 - Oct. 23, 2010 He passed away peacefully at his home in Pacifica, CA at the age of 85, after a Brave 4 year battle with cancer. He was born in Beuthen, Germany the 8th of 10 children. After finishing trade school he was drafted into the German Army in 1942. He came to San Francisco in 1958 and opened 2 restaurants, the Europa and Monty's. He also tried his hand in the music business by recording 2 songs with Christy Records in 1960 under the nickname Joey Berlin. He then worked at Rolf's Restaurant from 1960-1982 and Schroeder's Restaurant until his retirement in 1997. He met many famous and interesting people in his long career in the restaurant business. After retiring he went on to write his memoirs "Operation Sunflower" about his imprisonment and escape from a Russian Prison Camp. He belonged to the Freundschaft Liederkranz, where he enjoyed singing since one of his dreams in life was to become an Opera singer. He also belonged to the Concordia Soccer Club where he enjoyed spending time with his friends. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Helga, his son Lawrence and his wife Angela of Newark, CA, his daughter Vera of Pacifica, CA, his brother Gordon and his wife Harlene of San Bruno, CA and his nieces and nephews. Memorial services for Josef will be held on Saturday October 30, 2010 at 11:00am at Duggan's Serra Mortuary located at 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City, CA 94014 followed by a celebration of his life at Sharp Park Restaurant located at the Sharp Park Golf Course, Highway 1 in Pacifica, CA 94044.
