Artemis Molakides Obituary

Artemis Molakides Passed away on October 13, 2010 at the age of 95. Loving wife of the late Lampros Molakides; Stepmother to James, Theodore, Paul and predeceased by George Molakides; grandmother of Terry Molakides, Jamie Papadimos, Tami Young, Michael Molakides, Doris and Louie Molakides; she was preceded in death by her seven brothers and sisters; great-grandmother to Shiloh McGillicuddy, Christine Hitchcock, and Mara Papadimos.Artemis always has had a big appetite for knowledge. She believed wholeheartedly that you must feed your brain as you would your body to keep it in tip top shape. She had many memberships in SF including the SF Opera, Exploratorium, Aquarium and to the SF Zoo. She enjoyed bringing her grandchildren to a new adventure every weekend, and we are very indebted to her for all of her love and time. Artemis had also seeked more intellectual knowledge and attended lectures and classes at the local SF colleges for 16 years straight until she broke her hip at 92 years old. She was also very involved with The Holy Trinity Church on Brotherhood Way. She would not miss a Sunday, nor would her grandchildren. She has shared her life with so many people, she will not be forgotten. Artemis had left Solonika, Greece, and came here to San Francisco 55 years ago. She had married Lampros Molakides and was devoted to him, as well as, to his four sons. Artemis had made amazing strides in her life in America. She mastered the English language, and when she learned how to drive it unleashed a passion of exploring in Artemis. She would drive all over the Bay area finding the most interesting little Greek stores and other treasures on her travels. She would drive her friends to wherever they had to go, she was always there to help her family or friends. She was especially loving to her grandchildren. As we remember the drives we would go on through the backroads of Marin singing God Bless America, and other patriotic songs with her angel like voice leading us in song. Artemis has touched so many lives with her selfless acts of love and friendship. She is deeply missed by many family and friends spanning from California to Greece. She will always represent great strength, loyalty, determination, and compassion to all of those who were lucky enough to have this amazing woman in their lives. Friends may visit Sunday October 17th at 4pm and are invited to attend the Trisagion Sunday at 5pm at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday October 18th at 11am also at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 999 Brotherhood Way, SF. Burial to follow at Greek Orthodox Memorial Park, Colma. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

Our deepest condolences to the Molakides Family. You were truly blessed to have Thea Artemis in your life. As an Italian marrying into a Greek family Thea Artemis made me feel right at home by speaking to me in Italian (better than I did) We will always remember her kindness.
God Bless,
Vivian & John Demakas
