Janet King Obituary

Janet Linnea King

Janet Linnea (Post) King, 76, passed peacefully at home with her family by her side on June 12, 2015, after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born in Berkeley and grew up in several areas of the country, the daughter of a US Army dentist. She attended UC Berkeley and earned her degree in Education from San Francisco State University.

Janet was a lifelong dancer and an accomplished tennis player. She was a highly regarded elementary school teacher in Alameda. Janet's gracious, loving spirit extended to all who knew her, making even new acquaintances feel comfortable and connected with her. Treasuring each moment and each person in her life, she was incredibly warm, thoughtful, considerate and kind. She was positive and hopeful, never focusing on herself but continuing to care for others. We will feel her presence forever.

Janet was the loving wife of Joe King, sister of Dr. James Post (Ginny), mother of Elizabeth Jolley (Donal) and Hilary Schleuning (Jon), and grandmother of eight grandchildren. She was the step-mother of six children and grandmother of five step-grandchildren.

The family requests that donations be made to The Salvation Army.

Mrs. King was my 4th grade teacher and on a whim I thought of her and looked her up. She inspired those who went through her classes and I´ll always remember her and her cool haircut!

Janet was one of my mothers' best friends. I mourn not only the loss of Janet and what that means to her family, but the loss of another connection to my mother. Janet always had an open invitation for me to visit and I was lucky enough to be able to do so last fall. I had a wonderful 2 days with Joe and Janet, exploring the area. My condolences to all the family.

Janet was the most gracious and generous lady. I think of her often and never got around to thanking her for being such a positive influence on me. RIP dear lady. Vickie Darnell
