Kent Hillegass Obituary

Kent Field Hillegass

Kent Field Hillegass died on June 3rd 2016, at the Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI after a three week illness. He had just returned from his 25th College Reunion at Washington and Lee University.

Kent was born on January 17th, 1969 in Pittsburgh, PA. He moved to Barrington in 1973. He attended and graduated from the Holderness School in Plymouth, NH where he was captain and MVP of both the football and lacrosse teams and received the Coach's Award for Excellence which is given to the " Boy or Girl who, in the opinion of the Director of Athletics and the Headmaster, has contributed the most to the spirit of Holderness athletics on and off the field". He was first team All-League as a fullback in football and as a Lacrosse Goalie. At Washington and Lee, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Captain of the Club Intercollegiate Lacrosse Team, and a member of the Sphinx and Sigma Societies.

After graduation, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where he spent his entire professional career. He worked in commercial real estate and, most recently, was in charge of the San Francisco and Northern California Account of Jones Lang LaSalle for Bank of America.

Kent settled in Mill Valley where he enjoyed hiking Mt. Tam, the Spit, and the Headlands and fishing from his boat "Tangled Up". Kent was a skilled musician who loved playing the guitar, performing with several bands in Rhode Island and Sausalito, CA. Kent loved photography, sailing in New England, hiking in California, especially Yosemite, and skiing at Waterville Valley, NH and Squaw Valley, CA.

Kent travelled to Europe numerous times and was in Berlin, Germany for end of the Wall and saw the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. He especially enjoyed Italy and Sicily.

Kent is survived by his former wife Paige Henke Hillegass and two children, Carter Anderson and Kent Field (Jake) Hillegass Jr. of Mill Valley, CA; his parents, Dr. Ronald and Mrs. Margaret May Hillegass of Barrington, RI; his older brother Carl Hillegass and wife Stella and their children Hopper, Maggie, and George of Stonington, CT; and his younger brother Michael Hillegass and wife Carrie of Washington, DC and their children Billy Baer, Hope, Kiki, and Ella.

Kent will be missed by his family and his many good friends from San Francisco, Barrington, Holderness School, Washington and Lee University, and many other places.

Many thanks to the Nursing Staff and the Doctors at Miriam who tried to keep him going to enjoy more of life.

Funeral Services will be private. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Remembrances of Kent can be shared at Caringbridge.org.
