LOIS GEREGHTY Obituary

October 6, 1916 - September 13, 2010 Survived by son, William Gereghty; granddaughters, Amber (Gereghty) Severino, and Jennifer (Gereghty) Hughes; grandsons, Vincent Patrick Gereghty, and William Patrick Gereghty; and great-grandsons, Bryan, Michael, Jonathan, and Luke. Lois was born in the Seattle area where she resided until age 21 when her wanderlust took her to Los Angeles, California. In search of employment, Lois scoured the city where she found work as a secretary for the inventor of the famous "one-armed bandit" (Slot Machine), Mr. Harry Gans. During this stage of her life she would witness some famous underworld figures, such as Benjamin "Bugsy" Segal visiting Mr. Gans to conduct "business". After some time in L.A. she met and married John Henry Gereghty, an employee of the Columbia Motion Picture Corp. As time passed and promotions came, John "Jack" was provided the opportunity to travel all over the world on movie productions such as "Come September", "Paint Your Wagon", etc., and Lois accompanied him on many of these trips. Always a student of the arts and literature, Lois started collecting books and manuscripts from places near and far which led to her opening her own rare and out-of-print book business (Lois Gereghty Books) which she operated for over 40 years, out of her home in Sepulveda, California. Lois was widowed in 1985 but continued her book business undeterred until a few short years ago, at one point having over 10,000 books in her inventory. Lois passed away, 7:45 a.m., on September 13, 2010, at an assisted living facility in Vista, California, close to her family. She will be missed.
