Roy Ireland Obituary

Roy E. Ireland, beloved husband, father, grand- father, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, passed from this life on Friday, November 12, 2010 at age 93. Roy was born in Mitchell, Nebraska, on February 4, 1917, to Roy Manderson Ireland and Ruby Cormack Ireland. He met Mary Elizabeth (Betty) White in 1939, and they married on September 12, 1942. They were blessed with six children, twelve grand- children and nine great-grandchildren. After a career with the United States Treasury Department, Roy retired and started his own bookkeeping and tax business, which he operated well into his 80's. Roy always enjoyed activities with his family, and he will be lovingly remembered by family and friends as a man who loved people. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell jokes and stories. A long-time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pomona, California, Roy was active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society and served as an usher for more than forty years. While his children were attending St. Joseph's Elementary and Pomona Catholic High, he used his tax expertise to manage the church's bookkeeping and payroll. For the past two years Roy lived at Claremont Place, a residential senior community, where he enjoyed interacting with fellow residents and staff. His family would like to thank all the staff of Claremont Place and the Hospice staff for their kind and loving care. A rosary will be held on Tuesday, November 23, at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1150 West Holt Avenue, Pomona, California 91768. A funeral mass will be celebrated at the church on Wednesday, November 24, at 9 a.m. Roy's ashes will be interred at Forest Lawn immediately after mass. Donations to the American Cancer Society are encouraged in lieu of flowers.

Dear Ireland Family,
I saw Roy many times at Claremont Place. He always gave a smiling, "Hello," and this delightful greeting, along with a visit, made for such a welcoming feeling. He just had that unique knack of making you feel special.
I'm thankful for my acquaintance with Mr. Ireland, as I knew him as a gentle, kind man. I miss him.
With deep condolences...
