Herbert Schneider Obituary

Herbert W. Schneider

Herbert W. Schneider "Herb", 81, of the town of Sheboygan, passed away Thursday evening

November 29, 2012 at Grafton Aurora Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Herb was born June 10, 1931 in Waite Park, MN. a son of the late George and Lena (Thommes) Schneider. He attended school in St. Cloud, MN. graduating from Cathedral High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1951 until his honorable discharge in December 1952. He then entered St. Cloud State Teacher's College, earning his BS degree in Industrial Education in 1955. On November 12, 1954, Herb married the love of his life, Myra (Lackmann), who he met in Geography Class at St. Cloud State.

Herb's first teaching position was in Eden Valley MN. After two years, Herb and Myra moved to Ruthven, IA. to teach for seven years. In 1964, the Schneider family moved to Sheboygan where he taught Electricity and Electronics at North High School until August 1975. Herb then became the Vocation Coordinator for the Sheboygan Area School District until his retirement in June of 1993. During his years in education, he was active both locally and within the state in groups promoting education.

Herb was very active in the International Lions Association. He joined Lions in 1957 and had attained over 50 years of perfect attendance. He presently was a member of the Sheboygan Noon Lions. He served in many leadership positions in the Lions organization including being a founding member of the Sheboygan County Area Lions Eye Bank where he faithfully served as Chairman and board member for many years, District Governor in Iowa in 1992-1993 and in Wisconsin from 1969-1970. He served on many committees on the state level, having been a Director and Past-President of the Wisconsin Lions Foundation. His 20-plus trips with the Lions Mission to Mexico to distribute used eye glasses were a very rewarding experience for both Herb and Myra. Herb reflected all of the values of Lionism, his contribution to humanity was evidenced by his participation, and the many local, state, national and international awards he received during his tenure.

Herb was a member of St. Dominic's Parish in Sheboygan where he served on the Parish Council for a short time. He was also very involved with the Sheboygan County Historical Museum where he was a past President and was still involved as a volunteer. Herb was a long time member of the Sheboygan Elks B.P.O.E. # 299 where he enjoyed bowling, and was a life member of the American Legion.

In addition to his wife Myra, he is survived by one daughter, Linda (Peter) Baumgartner of King George, VA.; three sons, Bill (Darlene) Schneider of Apple Valley, MN. Wayne (Sunny) Schneider of Murfreesboro, TN. And Roger (Lori) Schneider of Stevens Point, WI.; six grandchildren, Amy (Will) Keay of Fairfax, VA., Michelle Schneider of Apple Valley, MN., Patrick Schneider of Raleigh, NC., Eric Baumgartner of Colorado Springs, CO., Drew Schneider of Scottsdale, AZ and Alexis Schneider of Auburn, AL. Herb is also survived by his sister, Mary Mae Vanderbloemen of Manassas VA and many nieces and nephews.
