SHREVEPORT, LA - Services to honor the life of Charles Harrison Carlisle, 88, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 24, 2011, at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Al Richardson officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. The family will receive guests on Thursday evening between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Charles was born April 1, 1923, in Benson, LA to the late William H. and Emma Tombs Carlisle. On Monday, June 20, 2011, he was carried home to be with his Lord and Savior.
Charles was a caring man who loved his family and was a push over for "his girls". He was an avid fisherman, and a longtime member of Haynes Ave. Baptist Church who loved his church family equally well. He served in the 36th Infantry Division, U.S. Army Air Corp, during WWII and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Many people will remember Charles for his kind heartedness as it was always on display through the business he owned and operated; Carlisle Heating & Air Conditioning. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Vivian Dyke Carlisle; daughter, Joretta Leach; and his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Alvin Carlisle and wife, Patricia and Allen Carlisle and wife, Brenda; one daughter, Charlene Chauvin; four sisters, Janella Britt, Muriel Carnahan, Mabel Traw, and Wilma Whitaker; two brothers, Pete Carlisle and Robert Carlisle; seven grandchildren, Jason Leach, Shawn Carlisle, Jennifer Leach-Tippetts, Courtney Mills, Jeffery Leach, Joshua Carlisle, and Kristy Moreno; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Honoring Mr. Carlisle as pallbearers are Jason Leach, Jeffery Leach, Shawn Carlisle, Joshua Carlisle, Forrest Jones, and Jack Leach.

HE WAS THE FATHER IN LAW I WAS GREATLY BLESSED TO HAVE IN MY LIFE HE WILL BE DEARLY MISSED. I REMEMBER THE GIRLS WOULD COME OVER TO SEE HIM THEY WOULD ALWAYS SAY I LOVE YOU TO HIM AND HE WOULD SAY I LOVE YOU MORE. We are so lucky to have lived next door to the Carlisle's all these years. It was thirty one years this past February that we moved in and Mr. Carlisle was such a big help to us. He was always helping us with this and that. I so enjoyed talking to him. He was such a character. We will miss him so much!
Charlene, I hope everyone knows how devoted to your dad you were. You took such great care of him. He loved you so much.

Papaw, There are no words to express how much you will be missed and how much you are truly loved. I have so many wonderful memories of all the good times we had. You are such a good man and were the best grandfather ever. You always showed us(your grandkids) how much you loved us and how much we meant to you. I never got to meet Charles Carlisle, but have been pleased to be a part of Alvin and Patrica Carlisle's life for the last six months. My prays go out to all his family for their lost of a very special person in their life. I really wish I got to meet Charles Carlise he seemed like he was a amazing man and father and grandfather.

Charles was not only a cousin but also my friend for many years. He had the joy of laughter and loved to tease. I am so sorry that I lost touch; we spent many telephone hours recalling by gone days and family connections. He cherished his family and I feel blessed to have known him. I love you all and thank you for making family real and my inclusion years ago.

I never met this man, only knew about him through his grandson Shawn and Krissie, and Pat. All spoke highly of him. It is truly a blessing that he knew the Lord and that one day you have the opportunity to be with him for eternity. I know how hard this time is for all of you, please accept my condolences. I also want to thank the Lord for traveling mercies for all those that had many miles to travel, and that you are all together to strengthen and encourage one another.....Bless God for families !

It is so hard this side of Heaven to learn to live each day without that someone special that relocates before us. But as Belivers, there is SUCH joy in knowing we'll see that smile again that lit up a room! When I was little, I thought Uncle Charles looked like John Wayne, so when I'd answer the phone, he'd say, "This is your Hero!".
I cannot wait to see him again soon!

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Charles Harrison Carlisle our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Charles. And to Charles it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II while serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Charles, we bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
