William Gibbs McAdoo "Mack" Foster

Haynesville, LA (Bailey Town Community) - Funeral services for Mr. William Gibbs McAdoo "Mack" Foster , age 87, will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at the Holly Ridge Assembly of God Church, Haynesville, LA, with Bro. David Walsworth officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Haynesville.

Visitation will be held at the church Monday, December 16, 2013 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

Mr. Foster was born on July 8, 1926 to Samuel David and Myrtie Bailey Foster in the Bailey Town community and passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013 in Homer, LA. He married the love of his life on August 15, 1944. They were married for 66 years. Mr. Foster worked as a heavy machinery operator for numerous businesses in North Louisiana. He also worked in the log woods. He loved to grow big vegetable gardens each year. When he no longer was able, he simply would get on the tractor and plow to keep it cleared. He gathered and sawed firewood for many. Just two weeks ago he was videoed still trying to saw wood. A few years ago he'd broken his hip, which made it difficult to walk. He refused to let it stop him from what he needed to do. Mr. Foster served his country in the Marine Corp during World War II, stationed near Shi Pan in the China Sea and was later sent to help in the rebuilding of Guam.

He is survived by six daughters, Kathie Mills and husband, Hershel of Haynesville, Helen Foster of Minden, Francis Rasberry and husband, Donald of Magnolia, Patty Helms and husband, Joe of Haynesville, Susan Rasberry and husband, Derick of Emerson, Melba Green and husband, Jerry of Homer; five sons, William P. "Pete Foster and wife, Jackie of Haynesville, John Foster and wife, Ruby of Summerfield, Dan Foster and wife, Kathy of Haynesville, Harry "Fred" Foster and wife, Sharon of Haynesville, Bob "Hop" Foster and Sherry of Haynesville; twenty-eight grandchildren; fifty-three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry David Foster of Irving, TX, Bobby Foster of Monroe; sister, Jettye Cupples of Boyce, LA, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Foster was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolly Juanita Bailey Foster; brothers, Samuel David Foster Jr., James Leonard Foster and Billy Harper Foster; and sister, Willa Jones.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to William Gibbs McAdoo “Mack” Foster our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for “Mack”. And to “Mack” it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. “Mack”, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, Generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to “Mack's” family and loved ones.
