AILEEN McGRADE Obituary

McGRADE, AILEEN A. With the grace and dignity she demonstrated every day of her life, Aileen A. McGrade died peacefully on November 20, 2010 from pneumonia at Sunrise at La Costa. A product of Irish grit, wit and humor, she was born in New York City on August 22, 1917, to John and Alice McHugh and was the eldest of four sisters. Her Irish roots, her Catholic faith, and her unswerving patriotism to this country formed the foundation for all she did. A graduate of St. Joseph's College in Emmitsburg, Maryland, she was a school teacher, homemaker and a real estate agent. She served as President of the Los Angeles County Medical Auxiliary and multiple Parent-Teacher Associations. An avid artist, she enjoyed oil painting throughout her life and competed in regional art shows. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she served on the Finance Committee. Aileen married Eugene McGrade, M.D and after 53 years of marriage, his death separated them 13 years ago. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Rowland Heights. She is the mother of Maureen, Patricia, Eugene and Paul, grandmother of ten and great-grandmother of eight. Her funeral Mass will be said at Sacred Heart Church, Covina. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the scholarship fund in her name at Bishop Amat High School.
