TODD BYERLY Obituary

January 30, 1965 - October 4, 2016

Fishing, especially on the Skagit, was one of Todd's favorite activities. Unfortunately, the river that he loved took his life on October 4th as he was returning from a day of fishing.

He traveled extensively, but the majority of Todd's life was spent in the Skagit Valley. He was active in the L(Lyman) & H(Hamilton) Scramblers 4-H club during his elementary school years showing livestock at the Skagit County Fair.

While in high school he was a member of the Skagit County Sheriff's Search and Rescue team. He participated in football and track and was proud to be a part of coach Don "Spud" Walley's third and final state championship wrestling team in his senior year.

After graduation from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1983, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was trained as a Security Police bomb dog specialist. One of his assignments was to provide security for diplomats traveling on Air Force Two to Brazil.

After completing his enlistment, he became a heavy equipment operator and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 302 until his untimely passing.

Todd enjoyed an intense love of the outdoors. He was a passionate fisherman and hunter and often packed up his horses and mules to seek out deer and elk in the back country.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ken Byerly.

He is survived by his wife, Liz Swift, Lyman; son Calvin, Wesley Chapel, Fl; mother Mary Ellen, Lyman; brother Kent, Lyman; close hunting partner of 30 years, Dean Harriman, Conway; niece Allison (Garrett) Abbey, Sedro-Woolley; and spiritual counselor Pastor Ken Hubbard, Stanwood.

A memorial service will be held at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, 1511 E. Broadway on Sat. Oct. 22 @ 1:00 P.M.

Memorials may be given to Skagit County Search and Rescue, Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund, or a charity of your choice.

A shock to hear of Todd passing during an Internet search. We served together in K-9 in the Air Force in Texas. He was a good dog handler and a good friend that I regret losing contact with. RIP Tood.

As we walk this path called life there are those that leave an indelible imprint, just as you did. If it had to be your time I'm glad it was doing what you loved most. Your Mom is a strong, fabulous woman. Til we meet again. RIP.

Todd loved the Lord and lived out his faith every day. Those of us blessed to be called friend by him saw the love of Jesus through Todd. Saint Todd? No, but Todd new how to love well and his light touched all who knew him. My world, this world will be darker without him. I will miss him every day until we meet again.

On that day " The Master said , Well done, my good and faithful servant. You were faithful with few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your Master."

My heart goes out to you, Todd's family, with the news of his untimely passing. Although it's been many years since seeing Todd, he (along with brother, Kent) were adorable when I babysat them as toddlers ~ and it is heart-warming to read of the man he had become. May each one of you know "the God of all comfort" and the peace that only He can give. With warm regards ~

Oh Todd, what a icon you were to our family. One of a kind, great storyteller, salmon BBQ'er, and a good friend to Kris. You would be there when he needed you, and you knew you could call on him anytime too. Our family is going to miss you driving up with your bike, revving it through the yard and parking on the patio (who does that? LOL). Rest in peace and we know you'll be looking over your buddies and their kids while they're out on the river and in the woods...you will be their guardian angel no doubt.

Celebrating a life well lived. We will cherish the memories forever.
