Carl Lindberg Jr.

December 28, 2016

Uncle Cy and his wife Madeline were great friends of my parents, Carl and Helen Lindberg. During the time that Dad was stationed at two ADC radar bases (Sioux Lookout, Ontario and Baudette, MN), Uncle Cy and Madeline would visit us from his duty station at the local Air Division Head Quarters for fishing , camping and playing Bridge with my folks. Over time my folks lost touch (caused by too many "PCS" moves in short periods of time) with Uncle Cy and Madeline. Several years after Dad retired from his last USAF assignment as the Base Commander of the Blaine radar Base, Mom asked if I could try to locate Uncle Cy using the same Internet search engines that i used to locate some of my "lost" friends and classmates from my 12 schools around the world as an Air Force brat. Sadly it was not until both my parents passed away that I did locate Uncle Cy and Madeline. They too had died and for a period of time these two couples actually lived about 55 air miles apart without knowing how close they were to each other. This is the actual distance apart, between Blaine, WA where my folks first retired and Bow, WA where Uncle Cy and Madeline lived. I remember Uncle Cy best for his songs and stories as told around the camp fires or the charcoal grill. He was larger that life. When I discovered the small cemetery where Cy and Madeline were buried, I drove up from my Shoreline home to "visit" their grave and leave a note with some flowers on their grave. These two couples were so near, but so far away.
