Jon MacLeod Obituary

Jon Harold MacLeod died on Friday, March 23 in Petoskey following a short illness. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie on Sept. 29, 1939 to Kenneth S. and Ferne (Authier) MacLeod, who preceded him in death.

Jon graduated from Sault High School in 1957 and from Michigan Tech in applied physics, and was a registered professional engineer in Michigan and in Iowa. He also had an M.B.A. from Central Michigan University, where he was assistant vice president for almost 20 years. He also worked for the University of Iowa and for LSSU before retiring in Sault Ste. Marie.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marian (Batdorff); his daughter Marlisa (Mike) Leigh of New Berlin, WI; his son Jon Kyle (Anne) of Brimley; grandchildren Rowan and Conor Leigh and Nathan and Halle MacLeod; brother Ken (Helen) of Evanston IL; sisters Karen (Carl) Mackie of Mt. Vernon, OH; and Janice Hutchins and Lauri MacLeod (Bruce Burdick) of Brimley. Also surviving are many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will take place later in June, and will be announced at that time. Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home is taking care of arrangements. After cremation and memorial service, the cremains will be interred at Bay Mills Cemetery.

Donations in Jon's memory may be made to Bayliss Public Library, one of Jon's favorite places. He was never without a book to read.

As kids we spent hours at the Maclleod house playing monopoly and trying to pull taffy! So sad to hear about Jon and think about how far behind I am at knowing the next generations. Am thinking of you and pray that God will give you strength at this time. Nancy (Donnelly)Forcier

God comfort you Rusty (and family) during this time of great loss in your lives. Jon was loved by all and will be greatly missed. The coffee group at the Avery enjoyed his times of visit with them (my sister-in-law is a part of the group) and enjoyed the travel experiences he shared with them and just his input in their conversations when he would come down and partake with the group. I am so sorry for your loss and will be praying for you all. It is a new and different day of adjustment in your lives. God Bless, Marilyn
