Lucia L. LeeVan Feb. 28, 1939 - Jan. 6, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Lucia L. LeeVan, 74, passed away as a result of lymphoma on Monday, January 6, 2014, in her residence surrounded by her family. Lucy was born February 28, 1939, in South Bend, to the late Chester and Helen (Matelski) Lopinski. On October 24, 1959, Lucy married Robert LeeVan, who preceded her in death in 2010. Lucy was also preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret LeeVan-Andrie; and a sister, Rita Lopinski. Survivors of Lucy include her children, Michael LeeVan of South Bend, Michelle LeeVan of Waterford, MI, Steven (Christa) LeeVan of Granger, and Greg LeeVan of South Bend; son-in-law, Michael (Kathy) Andrie of Columbus, IN; brothers, Raymond Lopinski and Leonard (Sue) Lopinski both of South Bend; sister, Susan (David) Sanford of Saginaw, MI; grandchildren, Casey LeeVan, Bethany LeeVan, Rachel Andrie, and Nicholas Andrie; and by many loving nieces and nephews and other extended family. Lucy graduated from St. Joseph High School. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. Throughout the years, she also found fulfillment by working at various part time jobs. Lucy was a faithful parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church where she participated in many events through the years including the Altar and Rosary Society. She formerly volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital for over 20 years and was a Knights of Columbus wife. Lucy took pride in cooking for her family. She especially enjoyed meeting with friends from her monthly card group who provided her with much comfort and assistance in her times of need. Her greatest joy was being with her family and attending her grandchildren's activities. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff of the 10th floor at Memorial Hospital and her caregivers from St. Joseph Visiting Nurses and the Center for Hospice for their support and kindness. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 11:00 am in Holy Family Catholic Church. Family and friends may gather in the church one hour prior to the service. St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. is assisting the family. The family has requested no flowers; donations may be made to the charity of choice. Condolences may be made at www.sjfh.net.
