Mary Wilfing Obituary

Mary L. Wilfing April 8, 1930 - July 17, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Mary L. Wilfing, 84, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014, in Memorial Hospital. Mary was born April 8, 1930, in South Bend, to the late Charles and Helen (Wendel) Penn. Mary was also preceded in death by a son, Doug Wilfing, who passed away on May 12, 2007; sister, Carolyn McCann; brother, Hugh Penn; and grandson, Andrew Wilfing. Survivors of Mary include her sons, Rudy Wilfing Jr. of San Diego, CA, Scott (Pam) Wilfing of South Bend, IN, and Greg (Gail) Wilfing of South Bend, IN; sister, Joyce (Jim) Makielski of Vero Beach, FL; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grand-children; and 4 nieces and 2 nephews. Mary was a benefits secretary before being employed with Healthwin Hospital for nine years. She attended Little Flower Catholic Church. Mary helped counsel seniors for 7 years, and ran the gift shop at Healthwin Hospital. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, working in the yard and taking care of her flowers. A Memorial Gathering to celebrate Mary's life will be held 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, July 25, 2014, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd, South Bend, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.

I worked with Mary at Healthwin. She always had a smile and kind word for all those she met, especially those residents with whom she had contact. I am so sorry for your loss.
