Gertrude Stoddard Obituary

Gertrude E. Betty (Grant) Stoddard, a longtime Hanover resident, died Feb. 2, 2010, at South Shore Hospital. She was born in Rockland, daughter of the late Alfred and Elsie (Saville) Grant, and was raised and educated there, graduating from Rockland High School. Betty had a long and distinguished career as the secretary to the Hanover Board of Health retiring several years ago. She was an avid reader and took great pride in her homemaking and being a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Bonnie Belden and her husband Bob of Hanson and Jack Stoddard and his wife Margie of Duxbury; her grandchildren, Brett and Jonathan Stoddard, Aimee Cobis and her husband John, Danielle Leadbetter and her husband Kevin and Lauren Millette and her husband Chris. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Tucker and Ainsleigh Cobis, Devyn and Paityn Leadbetter and Andie Millette. A blessing will be held in St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 17 Church St., Hanover, Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at 12:30 p.m. Friends and family are invited to the blessing and Celebration of Life that will follow at the Phoenix Lodge AF&AM on the corner of Washington Street and Broadway at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Rockland in the spring. It is Feb.6th and I just listened to the phone message from Jack. I am so sorry to hear of Betty's death. As you know, we've been very close friends for many, many years and I'll truly miss our phone calls. She was a wonderful person and friend.
