Frank Levingston Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 5, 2016.
Frank Levingston, the oldest verified World War II veteran in the United States passed away Tuesday at the age of 110, according to ABC News and other news sources.

Levingston was also considered to be the oldest living man in the United States at the time of his death.

Levingston enlisted in the U.S. Army on Oct. 6, 1942, according to the National Archives "He felt the obligation to give to the country whatever he possibly could, and he was very excited about it," Jee Levingston, Frank's nephew, told ABC News. "He gave it his very best."

"He was the backbone of this family," Levingston said. "He never married, had no children, but he took great pride in taking care of his sister's and brother's children. He was an individual who was able to mingle with people of all levels, from the uneducated to those with the highest of level of education."

Levingston was born in North Carolina. After the war, he became a cement finisher.

Levingston received a letter from the White House thanking him for his service on his 110th birthday.

American Veterans and Frank Levingston...Because they let courage do their talking, we are free to speak our minds. Because they fought against tyranny, we are free to worship as we please. Because they gave up the comforts of home, we are free from want. Because they put themselves in harm's way, we are free to live without fear.

Mr. Levingston' family, it is always a pleasure to hear of someone's service to our country. It is also an honor and a pleasure to know that his walk with God on this earth was 110 years. I too, have had the joy of having a family member live over the age of 100. I salute him for his service and to his family remaining here to journey onward without you. God has divinely blessed your uncle. Take comfort in knowing that God's has called one of his own back home to the fold. God's Grace is Sufficient. My prayers are with you. USN/RET
