I met Kermit and Lois when they arrived to serve their mission in Ayr, Scotland. They were wonderful people who became my friends and confidantes. Kermit taught me so much about the Gospel and the Priesthood. He was like a father to me I have nothing but the kindest, most loving memories of him.I am sorry we never met again after their visit back to Scotland in 2000, but time and distance will never make a difference. I recall fondly our trip to Chorley to visit the Preston temple.
My heartfelt commisserations to Lois and her family.

Dear Nichols Family, Bishop Nichols gave me excellent personal counsel while I was a young adult in the Raleigh 3rd Ward and altered the course of my life; I will be forever grateful! He spoke the truth with a kind manner and emulated our Savior. We were all able to look to him for proper guidance. Thanks for sharing him with all of us!

I was so sad to learn of Kermit's passing. He was such a wonderful, kind man. He and Lois were so nice to me and Don when we first moved to Greensboro, NC, in 1974. They invited us over to their house often as we were new to the Ward and didn't know anyone. We loved them so much. My sympathy to his wonderful family.

Elder Nichols was a wonderful man, he brought so much to the Ayr branch as it was at that time and especially with the youth. As a young woman at the time he always had a open heart an understanding mind and a wonderful sense of humour. I know how much he was loved and respected here in Scotland for the short time he and sister Nichols were here and I can only imagine the legacy of love he leaves behind will be of great comfort to his family x

Elder Nichols came into our lives in Troon Scotland where he served with Lois as full time missionaries for the LDS church. We were touched by his gentle manner, his love of the Lord and his deep understanding of the scriptures. He was warm, kind and generous in sharing his love and friendship. I like to think our aquaintance became a friendship and we spent many happy times in our home, sharing and being taught by this goodly giant of a man. He had a knack of leaving an indelible mark on your soul, so that the memory of him will not fade. I loved him as a mentor and friend and send my love and blessings and my deepest respect and sypathy to his family. God bless the memory of Kermit Nichols.

I was especially privileged to have Kermit and Lois in my life. They came over here to Scotland on their mission and spent the entire time here in the Ayr Ward of the Paisley Scotland Stake. When I was married in November 2000 they came back again to Scotland to be with us, even although their health was not always so good. Sometimes special people are placed in our lives by Heavenly Father . To recognise, understand and appreciate this, is truly a blessing.

I last saw Elder and Sister Nichols while they were in the MTC before serving a mission in Scotland. It was a joy to see them, as he had been our beloved Bishop through my teenage years. He brought me such comfort and strength at that important time of my life. What a wonderful man! I will always remember him and his big handshake and bigger heart.

No man had a more positive influence on my family than Kermit and none of them were as influenced more than I was. I knew him as my Bishop, as his councilor, a friend whom shared loving counsel of faith, hope, and wisdom, a man whose companionship I shall always treasure.
We discussed our families, our businesses, hunting, politics. literature, and more. The most treasured time was spent in sharing the doctrines, teachings, and administration of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Discussion in this arena always ended with an admonition to "follow the Brethren."
Few will ever know of is own trials and sufferings for he focused on the good in the spirit of the charity--the pure love of Christ. The things of the earth had no hold upon him. The extent of his generosities to others will only be known when he is asked to step to the right side of by One Kermit knew--the Savior and Redeemer.
Kermit stood tall among men in any crowd, and his dedication to our Heavenly Father and compassion for all set him apart for those of us blessed to know him in this phase of eternity. He could quote poetry from hours of study and songs learned beside an old phonograph. He loved the outdoors and the companionship of the hunt. Most of all he loved Lois and his children, their children, and their children. He found joy in each of his posterity and will surely have even greater joy throughout all eternity.
His confidence now waxes strong in the presence of Christ.
I will miss, you Kermit until you greet me again with a handshake from a large hand, a pull to your breast, and the love of Christ emanating from your heart.
Keith Clark and all my family.

We joined the church in 1976 and moved to Greensboro in early 1977. Brother Nichols was one of our first gospel doctrine teachers--we gained much from his knowledge and testimony of the scriptures--including the knowledge that "families are forever". Much love to his entire family. Vaughn & Karen.

Much love and peace to all of the Nichols family. Have many fond memories of the Sedgefield days. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers. Mr. Nichols left behind a great legacy; all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He lives on in each of you forever, and also in your hearts.

Ra Nae's first comment when we heard of Kermit's death was "What a great man!". I echo that feeling as well. We owe him so much for helping us get together. He was a true forever friend who not only cared for us but many others as well. He taught us so much so well. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lois and family

Kermit NIchols is a giant of a man. His love and support for me in my early Mormon years in Raleigh in the 1980s were boundless. I treasure every instance of them. I just "happened" to be writing about Kermit in a book I am writing. Being at the moment in Charlotte with my work, I wondered if I might visit him, not having been in touch for many years. I looked him up and learned of his departure. I am not alone, I know, in my love and respect and gratitude for the man, the work, and the life of Bishop Kermit B. Nichols. He was a friend to man and woman alike. I thank God and the Heavens that I knew him, and that he was part of my life. Thank you, Bishop Nichols!

Kermit was a special friend to Lou when he was Bishop, and that fond relationship continued through the years. Kermit's gentle guidance and strong friendship is a memory both of us will cherish. Many years ago, Kermit and Lois were our chauffeurs on a visit to the Washington Temple. The long trip developed into a very entertaining one as they shared several delightful stories with us about child rearing. Kermit lived his religion; he had a strong testimony of his faith, and he exemplified that faith to all who knew him. We will sincerely miss our friend, and we send our love and condolences to Lois and her children. With sympathy, Lou and Marion Arné

Kermit was and will always be a friend to us. He was a gentle giant in size but mostly in spirit. Kermit showed us love, kindness and an example to follow. He will be missed by us.
