Virginia Carter Obituary

CARTER,
Virginia Ethel

Virginia Ethel Carter, née Ramsey, was born February 8, 1918, and passed away on January 18, 2011. The daughter of Eastern Washington pioneers Ebert M. Ramsey and Ethel Adams Ramsey, Virginia was born in Cheney, and lived the first few years of her life in Ritzville. Her family moved to Spokane during the depression. Virginia met Robert P. Carter and they were married in Coeur d'Alene in 1939 and were together for 57 years until Bob's death in 1996. Virginia attended Kinsey Business School after she graduated from North Central in 1937, and worked at the Crescent Department Store until her children were born. After the children were in school, Virginia returned to work, first at the Crescent and finally at the Federal Milk Market Administration, where she remained until she retired. Virginia's great joy was her family, and she was the central figure in an extended family which grew to include nine grandchildren, 11 great grand children and two great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia moved to Fairwinds Retirement home in 2005 and to Northpointe assisted living center in 2009. She lived at Manor Care for the last 15 months of her life, until she was injured in a fall and decided that it was time for her to go. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her brothers Ray and Bill Ramsey, and her nephew David Ramsey. She is survived by her children, Kathy (Richard) Seely and Jackson (David York) Carter, by her brother Jack Ramsey, and by her many descendants. Virginia will be remembered by those who knew and loved her as a kind and considerate person whose soft manner belied her will of iron. Funeral services will be held on January 28 at 1:00 PM at Ball and Dodd, 5100 W Wellesley, with interment immediately afterward in Fairmount Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the Spokane food bank.
