Me and My Papa Clyde

My Papa Clyde
My name is Crystal and I am Clyde's oldest grandchild. I wanted share a few words about my Papa Clyde with you from my perspective.
You know the old saying, Jack of all trades, Master of none. My Papa Clyde proved that saying false. He mastered many things in his life from Butcher to Concrete Pourer, Electrician, Fire Fighter, Arson Investigator and Fire Chief. He helped on farms, helped build houses, managed condo buildings, had a passion for golf and loved to fish. In everything he did, he had a determination to do it to the best of his abilities, and took the time to do it right with an incredible work ethic that is sometimes hard to come by these days. I know that there are many more things that he did and accomplished in his life that I have never even heard about due to the fact that he liked to tell the same stories over and over which was just fine with me because he was also a wonderful story teller. He had a heart for serving others and liked to help wherever he could. I can't tell you how many times he blessed my family with the use of his knowledge and skills combined with his desire to be of help.
More important than all of this, though, is the way he cared for his family and friends. He was a wonderful son, father, husband, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather, he sure did love those grandbabies. He was stubborn, for sure, and loved to tease and joke, but he loved his family with his whole heart and cared for his friends deeply. My Papa Clyde was an amazing man and I am so grateful for the time I had with him even though I wish it had been much longer. But as he said, the good Lord had a tee time for him in heaven and 3 of his buddies were waiting.
Papa Clyde, I love you and will miss you always and think of you often as try to live a life that would make you proud to call me your granddaughter.

Clyde was a few years ahead of me at Grangeville High School, but I knew who he was, and I knew his brother Bill well. I got to know Clyde later in life when our paths again crossed in Spokane as part of the Over the Hill golf gang. I always enjoyed chatting with him. He leaves behind an impressive resume' of accomplishments. - Craig James

Clyde and I were firefighters together for his last 12 years on the job. He was a driver on Engine 5 when I was hired. Clyde was great guy in and out of the station. He could make that pumper dance at fire scenes and it was great knowing if you were in a fire that with Clyde at the panel he would keep the water coming to you. He was an expert practical joker and a lot of fun to be around. When my family would come to the station, the kids loved Clyde as he would make fun of me and kids thought that was great. He was the first Fire Marshal to hold the certifications and police commission that are required for the position today. I was proud to hold that position when I retired as well. God speed sir - you will be missed.

Clyde & his family were our neighbors when he was in high school in Grangeville. After he was married, Clyde & my husband, Jack, worked on Jaycee committees together. He was a good friend. Prayers to the family.

Clyde, and I worked the Valley Fire Santa Claus program years ago. One week, Clyde filled in for the regular Santa. He was like the energizer bunny Santa. Couldn't keep up with him. Wonderful smiling man.

I was 20 yrs old when I met Clyde and I wasn't real sure I wanted my Aunt dating a guy with a Camaro and a Jet boat. But as I got to know him I decided he was an OK guy. He taught my girl's naughty thing's like blowing in ash tray's. He was a tease, always was giving us a bad time. Yes Clyde you will be missed. Most of all I would want you to know how thankful I am to you for taking care of my Aunt. For giving her an amazing and beautiful life full of love. For that I will hold you in my heart forever. To his family and friends our deepest sympathies, may you find peace and healing in time and the love you have for each other.

Clyde and I killed our first deer together, didn't get home until midnight, had the whole town looking for us. I know one thing for sure, he'll have them laughing in heaven.

Clyde, we weren't real close buddies in HS but over the years you won my respect and friendship. You have left a void that no one will be able to fill. God bless and keep you and I'll look forward to seeing you again because we know He will be holding you close.
