It is hard to believe that it has been 14 years since we lost Gene. We were just talking about Gene last night. The fact is we talk about Gene a lot as he was such an amazing friend. He was missed then and he is missed even more when we talk about the fun we had together sharing what he called his " Potato Juice" Gene save a place for us.

We have so many beautiful memories that we shared with Gene and Tom. There was never a man I had more respect for than Gene. He was fun, funny and shared more than one vodka with me. He called it his potato juice. We think of how kind he was to everyone and how all that met him were blessed.

Gene was one of our very best friends, but it was easy to love Gene. His humor and wit and his sparkling Irish eyes would easily win you over. We have Gene in our prayers every night and the memories and good times we shared will live on forever in our hearts. Thank you Gene and put in a good word for us.

It seems like it was just yesterday and that is what it is like when a good friends get together after a long separation, you pick up the conversation like you were never apart. It is kind of like that with Gene, he is often on our mind and always in our heart. For us friends he was a gift from God.

Gene and I met at the Franciscan Centre nigh on 20 years ago, and since we both had "religious" backgrounds and were about the same age, we gelled from the start. We shared many special moments together and with Tom, especially private Masses in their home which I would celebrate and Gene would assist fulfilling his sacred order of Diaconate.

I knew Gene and Tom from visits to the Palm Harbor area. Gene was always cheerful and pleasant to me and was clearly a central part of Tom's life. They extended kindness with no regard for themselves. I believe that our world would be better with more people like Gene.

My dear cousin Gene will be missed by so many. He had a way of making you feel important to him every time you talked to him, and managed to make you laugh before you said goodbye. I treasure his memory, and know that Tom will be comforted by many good memories too.

Gene and Tom have been friends for over 20 years and the times we have shared have been true gifts from God. Gene will never be missed entirely as he lives on in Tom and all those who knew him. Gene left a part of himself in every person that he ever met, and we are truly blessed to have been part of his life here on earth. I know that he is with his creator and that he will continue to love and look after us as he always did.

Gene has gone on to be in the presence of the Lord and we rejoice with him for that, but he will be missed by many who are still here. We will miss those special occasion cards signed Love, Gene & Tom. We are praying that Tom's sorrow will lessen over time and will be replaced with fond memories and the love of friends and family.

Over the last 10 years, whenever a grandchild was born, Cousin Gene would ask for the name and birthdate -- and we all know why: On every occasion, without fail, a card would arrive, reminding us that we were in his thoughts and prayers. Cousin Gene will always be remembered as a good and gentle man who would never let a family member forget that they were important to him.
