From Patti the Architect... I was privileged to know Norm and his wonderful family. He was generous, sincere, and fair with all he came into contact with. I pray (yesterday at a Mass being offered for him at St. Michaels in Clearwater) he is receiving his eternal reward, that of a true and faithful servant of God. May Susan and all the children know the peace of God's love.

To Norm's family
I can only echo the earlier post written by Jim Carney. I started my career at Fiserv with Norm in Tampa and worked with him throughout the years.

I can't imagine the sorrow your family is going through. Norm was always a good friend, a great leader and the type of person so many of us aspired to be. He was someone we all looked up to and knew that he was always there for us. He took the time to know each and every one of us and was never too busy to listen and help in every way.

He will be missed by all. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

From the Catholic Foundation, our prayers are with the Balthasar family during their time of loss. Susan and Norm have been great a great support to the Foundation's work. Norm will be missed. Our thoughts are with you Susan.

October 31, 2011

Just a few days ago I was informed by a former schoolmate about Norm's passing. Ironically, about two days prior I held a newspaper photograph in my hand of the 1962 Notre Dame HS State Championship Football Team with Norm in it. He is a notable member of that team and the NDHS Community. My (our) prayers are for Norm and all of his family. May God Bless him, his family, and friends!

Respectfully,

Susan, Matt,Mary,Emily and Amy,

What started as a dream became a reality for Norm. He became a champion to many, a hero, one of us, a technician with the skills to communicate. But, he was always one of us.

I am so sorry for your loss and cannot imagine the deep sorrow you feel. Please know Norm brightened so many lives, gave meanings to many, and careers to so many more.

We will all miss him and remember him in our day to day activities. Without him, where would we all be?

Love, and the greatest blessings to your family. We were all blessed to have known Norm as a friend.

I was a classmate and a teammate
( football ) at Notre Dame High -- class of 1964. We were both offensive and defensive lineman. I was saddened to read of Norm's death and even though our lives took us separate ways since the classroom and the practice field, it's still a loss that saddens and hurts. God bless his family and him.

Dearest Susan, Matt, Mary, Emily and Amy,
I was so surprised and deeply saddened by Norman's passing. I have nothing but happy memories of our times together and when I think of Norman I remember his bigger than life presence, his adoration of you, Susan, and of course his wicked sense of humor. He looked so serious but he could certainly pick up a good line or joke without blinking an eye. Even though we have been separated through the years I think of you often, I see how the kids have grown, and I cherish the times we had together.
I know how difficult this is and I would like you to know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Susan, I am going to get your phone number from your mother and I do want to talk to you directly.
My love to all of you,
Darlene

Our condolences to Norm’s family for your loss. May the peace of the lord be with you all in this difficult time. Norm impacted many lives at Fiserv with the wisdom of Solomon, the patience of Job and genuine caring for his fellow man. Qualities we could all use more of will now be harder to come by with Norm’s passing. Rest in peace Norm.

October 26, 2011

I was sorry to read of Norman's passing.I was a good friend of Norm when we were growing up - through Notre Dame High School and the college days. I grew up around the corner on Bellevue Ave. in West Haven.I have many fond memories with Norm - helping him lift weights in his parents basement, attending college basketball games - a number of them at Madison Square Garden. I remember once watching an NIT and an NCAA Tournment game on two tvs in his parent's Livingroom- one tv stacked on top of the other - real high tech!

My wife, sheila, and I send our condolences to your family during this difficult time. Norman and your family will be in our prayers.

Although I only met Norm a handful of times he was always down to earth and respectful of those that worked for him. May his family find peace in knowing what a solid and well respected person he was.

I knew Norm through business having first met him in Tampa when he was managing the center there. I went to him many times over the years for his input, and was always blessed to see him on my visits to the Fiserv office in Milwaukee. My sympathy to the family and may our Lord give you peace at this time of loss. Norm will be missed by many, and he will certainly be missed by me.

October 25, 2011

I remember Norm from when I worked at Fiserv. I remember talking with him when I applied for an executive secretary position in the Corporate area where Norm was. I had a very bad cold and almost no voice. When I walked into Norm's office, there he was with a box of tissues because he also had a cold! I looked at Norm and said "well, don't we make quite the pair!". We both got a good laugh over that one. Norm had such a quick wit, great sense of humor, and I'll always remember that wonderful picture of Vince Lombardi he had in his office. He was always so happy when someone would comment on it. Rest in peace, Norm. To the Balthasar family, you are in my thoughts.

I knew Norm through his work as a volunteer for United Way when he was at Fiserv. I always thought he was so kind to take time to meet with me each fall, and to go out of his way to promote charitable giving within Fiserv. He's on my "favorite volunteers" list and I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. I'm a fellow ND grad and he liked to talk about his family and Notre Dame. My sincere condolences.

Though there were only a few opportunities to interact with Norm at Fiserv, he certainly made a lasting impression upon me as a genuine, caring individual with a wonderful smile. May you find strength in your faith, family and friends during this difficult time. And please know that he most certainly has touched the lives of many, many people. Blessings!

My wife Kathy and I both had the pleasure of working with Norm in both Tampa and Brookfield and although he was an incredible business man, that directly helped grow Fiserv into what it is today, he was an even better family man. We have fond memories of Norm opening up the data center for fun Easter and halloween activities for our kids. He was instrumental in bringing up both to Tampa and even better getting us back to our home base in Wisconsin. He treated us like family and always took the time to make us feel comfortable in our new setting.

Jim Rivenbark

October 23, 2011

My sincerest condolences to all members of the Balthasar and Tottle extended families for whom Norm was a strong and exemplary patriarch. This was a role for which he was naturally suited by way of his leadership, faith, charitable nature, and sense of responsibility for others. However, it was his choice to take it on and he did so with joy. For me personally, he was the older brother I never had and although more recent social circumstances disrupted our contact, his wise counsel, insightful musings, and the way he lived his life still serve as guidance for me. The world was a better place with him in it and we are at a loss without him. Saying that "he will be missed" doesn't come close helping others understand the meaning of this man's life to so many who knew him and to the many others who did not yet who benefitted greatly from him having been with us.

Norm was a gentleman. He treated people with dignity. Norm ended every call or visit with a warm 'take care' and he meant it. His unconditional love for his family was so apparent and he was so proud of each of you. You were the true joys in his life.

May God give each of you strength to allow his memory to comfort and inspire you and may all of us thank God for the privilege and the gift of his friendship.

October 23, 2011

Our condolences to Norm's family. May each and every one of you find fullness of comfort in the ultimate reunion Jesus Christ brings to us all.
