Regina Kalec Obituary
"Orchid Lady"
Nee: Horka
Age 83, of Elmira, died Saturday, August 23, 2014, after a courageous battle at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She is survived by daughter, Ann Bernice Kalec, Los Angeles, with her son Finnegan; son and daughter-in-law, Don Jr. & Melissa Kalec, Elmira; brother, Joseph (Eileen) Horka, Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Dolores Sandore, Big Flats; sister-in-law, Lucille Kalec, Williamsville, NY; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Predeceased by parents, Charles and Anna (Mekos) Horka; brother, Leonard Horka; sister, Dorothy Bubacz. Regina was co-owner of the Kalec Funeral Home since 1956. She was a communicant of Christ the Redeemer Parish, member of the White Eagles Club, Polish-Arts Club, adorer for the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at St. Casimir's Church, the Ladies of Charity, Zonta Club, and Rosary and Sacred Heart Society of St. Casimir's Church. As a hostess and cook she was legendary. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Those wishing may make a donation in Regina's name to Christ the Redeemer Parish for use at St. Casimir's Church, The American Kidney Fund, or The Alzheimer's Association (envelopes available at the Funeral Home). The family will receive relatives and friends at her Kalec Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 26th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a prayer service there Wednesday, August 27th, at 9:15 a.m. followed by her Mass of Christian Burial in St. Casimir's Church at 10 a.m. Burial to follow in Sts. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.

I found out about the passing of Regina in October, as I live out on the west coast, and am not in constant contact with the family. I do remember Regina well though!! I met her when I was quite young, and she visited California on her honeymoon with Donny. I was fasinated with her, and remebered how beautiful she was....and how much she loved the color lavender or violet. I am sure she is with Our Lord now, in the heavens..and I hope she looks down on us and prays for us in our needs as Life marches on. So sorry for the loss of the Kalec family! ....Heaven has gained a beautiful Angel.

Regina was one of the nicest persons I met on returning to Elmira 6 yrs ago. I missed seeing her at Perpetual Adoration this last year, and I will miss seeing her at Sunday Mass. I know God is welcoming her with open arms..
