Monks, Gordon Lewis

Age 93, was born November 17, 1923 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Edward Clarence and Ethel Mae (Smith) Monks, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 21, 2017. His beloved wife of 60 years, Alberta May (Thomas) Monks preceded him in death on June 3, 2006. His brothers: Lawrence Monks and Clarence Monks; sister: Marion Gillmer also predeceased him. Gordon is survived by his loving children: Susan Silvers of Pine City, NY; Nancy (Gary) Kline of Troy, PA; Gordon (Geraldine) Monks of Francestown, NH; much loved grandchildren: Michael (Sherryl Barbosa) Place, Christopher (Jackie Ruth) Place, Lisanne (John) York, David (Sue) Woughter, Richard (Cari) Woughter, Timothy Monks and Katie (Dustin) Page; along with numerous great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; nieces: Doris Ernest and Sherry Conover; nephews: Donny Monks and Gene Monks. Gordon was a Veteran of the US Navy proudly serving his country during WW II. He was a 40 year member of the Elmira Elks Lodge # 62. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services honoring his life will be held there on Wednesday, April 26th at 2:00 pm. Missionary Richard Woughter will officiate. Interment will follow in the Fitzsimmons Cemetery where Gordon will be laid to rest with his beloved Alberta and where the Chemung County Veteran's Honor Guard will accord Mr. Monks with Military Honors.
